Tobay Activates Action-Line
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor
John W. Burke announced
Monday the creation of a "TOB
Action Line" telephone in Oyster
Bay Town Hall to guarantee that
all inquiries receive prompt
attention.
Burke, who. promised to make
this service available during his
campaign for election last fall,
said that all calls to the Action
Line number (516-922-7676) would
be handled by a special staff. The
line will be open 'on a Monday-through-
Friday basis from 9 a.m.
to 4:45 p.m.
The calls will be directed to the
proper department and the
person handling the calls will be
trained in the intricacies of local
government to lessen the chance
of error.
In addition to insuring callers
quick answers and guidance on
their Town-related problems, the
staff would be able to spot many
potential problems as they
develop, according to Burke.
"In addition, many complicated
matters will be pursued
directly by the Action Line staff
and referred to the proper officials
for follow-up where
necessary, he declared.
Burke said he felt it was incumbent
to keep the lines open to
the general public. "I insist that
we make it as easy as possible for
residents to communicate with'
officials," Burke said:" "And I
insist that they should get the
prompt answers they deserve.
"Sometimes the frustration of
being unable to get through to the
proper authority on the phone is
far greater than the annoyance
that prompted the call in the first
place," Burke argued.
"Businesses strive to solve
problems of this type and we are
in the. business of solving the
problems of our residents."
Burke said that all new Town
residents would receive a convenient
adhesive label in the mail
which may be placed on the
telephone receiver. Town
residents may also request a
label by writing directly to the
Supervisor at Oyster Bay Town
Hall, Audrey Avenue, Oyster
Bay, or by calling Action Line.
Additional distribution will be
made through Chambers of Commerce,
libraries and service
clubs. .

£UiBT»BEi EXHIBIT-AT
LIBRARY
Visitors to the Plainview-Old
Bethpage Public Library have
been surprised lately to find on
the "new fiction" and "mystery"
shelves a most extraordinary
display of wax sculpture: The
library is fortunate to be playing
host now through June 13 to the
Second Annual Sculpture Exhibit
of the Adult Education Classes of
Marilyn Fleming Greenberg.
Mrs. Greenberg's students,
most of whom are beginners,
work primarily in Mobile
sculpture wax. They use live
models which is called "working
from the figure". Working from
the figure enables the students to
relate their work to the actual
three dimensional form. This is a
major reason for the high quality
of their work. -
Sculpture wax is an excellent
medium for beginners. It is easy
to work with and can be sprayed
to give an appearance of bronze'
or ceramic glaze.
The library extends a cordial
invitation to all residents to come
and view this most beautiful
show.
Boating Course
Oyster Bay Town Councilman
Philip B. Healey today announced
that the Town, in
cooperation "with the United
Stales Coast Guard Auxiliary,
Flotilla 13-2, will sponsor boating
safety classes for youngsters
ages 10 through 14, each day
commencing June 8 through June
12.
The classes will be held at the
launching ramp of the John
Burns Park, Massapequa, during
the hours of 3:45 p.m. and 5:30
p.m.
Healey said that the course
leads to a New York State
Boating Certificate, which is
mandatory for boating operators
in this age bracket.
Healey added that registration
is available by contacting H.
William Warner, at WA 2-5800 or
evenings at PY 8-7689.

The unanimously-elected Bethpage Against Drug
Abuse (B. A. D. A.) slate looks over suggestions for
controlling drug use in Bethpage: (1. to r.) Marven
Taylor, 1st vice - president; Paul Sieben, 2nd vice -
president; Eleanor Behrik, recording secretary; Judy
Denis, corresponding secretary; Frank D'Andria,
treasurer; and Tony Georgan, president.
Georgan stated he was "very pleased" with the
slate, elected Wednesday night at Bethpage high
school. Although only 50 people showed up at the
membership meeting, Georgan felt there was "considerable
interest" in this hard - core group. He
predicted that B. A. D. A. could start "meaningful
work" now that it has an "official sanction" from the
Community. Photo .by D. Coquelin
