VOL. 25 NO. 52 December 11-17, 1992 25 CENTS
The Niaht The Lights
On Bn,ldway Eight hundred plus bright lights
lit up the evening sky as the
Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
held their Annual Tree Lighting
ceremony on December 7.
Hundreds of residents bundled in
their warmest winter duds took to
Broadway to be a part of the
Chamber's old time Holiday celebration
which included carollers,
a visit from a very special chicken
and Santa himself who hopped a
ride with the Bethpage Fire
Department.
The countdown began at about
7:15 and ended with the lighting
of Bethpage's 23 foot Christmas
tree which was donated by Emil's
Nursery and was decorated by
dedicated Chamber volunteers
Friday night.
Carol after carol filled the ears
of all those in attendance as Arthur
Bretton led the crowd in song. Our
very own Pudgies Chicken gave
out candy canes to the smiling
children and all eyes brightened
as Santa rode down Broadway on
top of the Bethpage Fire Department
truck.
It is the Chambers intention to
each year, improve on the holiday
festivities of Bethpage. This town,
as most of us feel, is quite special
and quite unique, as it is home to
so many dedicated, hard-working
people who care deeply about the
town and their fellow residents.
That is why the Chamber feels that
the holiday times are special times
here in Bethpage. They also
believe that by creating a festive
atmosphere, shoppers will choose
to spend their holiday dollars right
here...locally.
Even mother nature cooperated
and refrained from shedding a
single tear on our ceremony
although she certainly was blowing
her chilly breeze through the
streets. Children, adults, even
dogs got involved in the spirit of
things and that is precisely the
(Conlinyed on Page 8}

turned on the over 800 lights that sparkled on our tree, which was donated by Emlls Nursery.
