' 'i:M LET'S STOP THEM NOW!
By Linda Antoneiti
I'm sure that many Tribune
Readers have noticed the increase
in graffiti and vandalism around
our town. It is also true that this
type of graffiti and destruction not
only gives Bethpage a bad appearance
but also forces merchants to
spend money to repair the damage.
This money not only could
be put to better uses but also is
difficult for ou^ merchants to
spend injecononric times such as
these. I personally am outraged
and furious at the irresponsibility
and malice that these vandals are
exhibiting. I think it is high time
that our community does something
about it. We cannot let a few
bad apples who have virtually no
regard for their town or other
people's property continue to
destroy a town which we all should
be proud to live in. I ask that
everyone be on the lookout for
these culprits. Not only do we have
Mr, Destroy who has left his
signature on numerous store
facades to deal with i:?ut it seems
he has recruited "Chuck" to join
him in his immaturity and destructive
acts.
And what can we do? Well, for
one thing, if anyone sees anyone
defacing a store they should
immediately call the eighth precinct
and report the incide/it. If
possible take a picture of the
vandal. Next it has been said that
once your building has been the
target of a graffiti attack it is
important to paint over or clean
the affected area. Experts say that
if you leave the graffiti alone it
attracts the vanda! to continue io
spray paint in the same area.
Certainly this can be time consuming,
inconvenient and costly but
statistics do show that taking care
of the graffiti promptly can reduce
the risk of future occurrences. And
a third measure is a reward given
by the Doyle-Koch Agency of $100
payable to anyone who can give
us information which will lead to
the apprehension of these
vandals.
it we all as a community stick
together than we can stop this now
before our town and our prooertv
is further destroyed by these
artists of destruction, if you have
any information please send it to
P.O. Box 399, Bethpage, N.Y.
11714. All information will be kept
confidential.
