Bethpage Day, to Danny Schiavetta, the President of the Bethpage Historical
Society. Bethpage Day commemorates the community's rich history and
accomplishments.
Central General Holds Health Fair
Central General Hospital and the Mid Island Y/JCC in Plainview are
advising residents to take their medications in for a checkup. The Hospital
and Mid Island "Y" are co-sponsoring a health fair on Sunday, November
10th, between 1 lam and 3pm and residents are urged to bring their medications
to the event for an examination. A Pharmacist from Central (>eneral will
look over your medications and will check for outdated items or combinations
of drugs which might be dangerous. The ( ommunity Health hair c91 will
be held at the Mid Island "Y"at 45 Manetto Hill Road in Plainview.

Bethpage Resident Trained as
Respite Volunteer for Senior Program
Ruth E. Jayson of Bethpage has joined the corps of trained volunteers
who provide the services offered by the Education Assistance (Orporalion s
Senior Respite Program. She is pictured at recent "graduation" ceremonies
with Adelaide Atterd (I.), recently retired Nassau ( ounty Commissioner of
Senior Citizens Affairs and Robyn Schneider, EAC Deputy Director, Director
of Family Service.
The five-year-old program, which operates primarily in South Nassau,
provides temporary relief for persons caring for frail elderly or disabled
members at home. The volunteers, who offer non-medical companionship,
free caregivers for a few hours each week so that they may attend to errands
and family business that take them away from home. More than half of
the Respite referrals are to persons caring for Alzheimer's patients.
Other concerns of the parent organization, EAC, include: court and
correction services such as Treatment Alternatives to Street C rime, the Bail
Project, Women's Opportunity Resource Center, STOPI-IET, ERASE;
educational and vocational services include the Developmental Learning
Programs,, Youth Employment Programs, Welfare Education; family services
such as the Family Court Advocacy program dealing with foster care and
Meals on Wheels.
EAC's administrative offices are in Carle Place, L.L„with project offices
located in Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
