MARKMEUZZI A SPECIAL
SCHOURSHIP HOMECOMING
Mark Melazzi was born on 7-7-70.
He was seven years old when he was
first hospitalized for his Cystic
Fibrosis.
He lost many days of school each
year, but always managed to keep his
grades high, and never lost his interest
in learning. The disease started to
weaken his body and organs but never
affected his brain.
He had a great interest in the
sciences and received the Earth Science
Award in Junior High. He excelled
in computer studies, even helping his
mother to get an A in her basic
programming course at Nassau Community
Colleue.
His real interest he developed later-
Electronic Engineering. After graduating
from Bethpage High School
in 1988, he attended SUNY at Farm-ingdale,
pursuing a bachelor's degree
in Electronic Engineering. For the
three semesters he attended before his
death, he was on the Dean's List and
worked part-time at an electronics
firm. (Autodyne Mfg)) in Bethpage.
He succumbed to the disease on
March 13, 1990.
Mark has certainly been missed by
not only his family, but also the many,
many friends he had made in this
community.
For his tireless spirit and commitment
to education, the Bethpage
Tribune has initiated a scholarship in
Mark's name which will be presented
this June to a graduate of Bethpage
High School.
It is through this scholarship, that
we plan to keep his memory alive for
years to come, and also to help other
students achieve much as Mark did.
We are however, asking for community
donations to help fund the scholarship.
If you are interested, please send
your donation lo the Bethpage Tribune
in 329 Broadway. Bethpauc,
1 1714. Ihc deadline tor donations is

Jason Klein, Gavin Donahue and Asaf Yeffet welcome their buddy Sal home
with home-made cards.
The end of the War in the Persian
Gulf was a relief to us all. 1 he third
graders at Charles Campagne School
breathed a sigh of relief in that their
friend. Marine Cpl. Sal Mascoli
would be returning home. Sal is the
brother of third grader Nicole Mascoli,
and when her class wrote letters
to her brother, he took special time
to answer each letter individually and
reply to the questions of curious and
concerned third graders.
Ihe children hoped and planned
to welcome iheir "Marine Bud(l\"

the place! Each child welcomed Sal
with a special welcome home card. He
