Bethpage Water Districts Ronald Krumholz
Named Water Supplier of the Month
On Long Island's hometront and
the battlefields of Vietnam, May's
Water Supplier of the Month, Ronald
J. Krumholz has played a vital role
in providing clean, safe drinking
water.
Mr. Krumholz, superintendent of
the Bethpage Water District, received
the award at a recent meeting of the
Long Island Water Conference
(LIWC), where he was recognized for
his many achievements.
"Working with Ronnie has been a
distinct pleasure," said Conference
Chairman Bill Ellinger, who also
serves as a Bethpage Water District
Commissioner. "His dedicated commitment
to service in the water
industry, both on Long Island and
abroad, has made him an expert in
the field. This award expresses the
Conference's respect and admiration
for his outstanding service."
Before becoming superintendent of
the Bethpage Water District 10 years
ago, Mr. Krumholz held various
positions at the Garden City Park
Water District for 13 years, taking
leave only for a four-year stint with
the United States Navy.
Fresh out of high school, Mr.
Krumholz worked as a meter reader
in the Garden City Park Water
District. After two years, he joined the
U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam in
1967-68 where he was responsible for
the design, operation and maintenance
of a water supply system. He
was transferred to Roosevelt Roads,
Puerto Rico, where he operated and
supervised a ground water treatment
plant.
When his military service was
completed, Mr. Krumholz returned to
his job at the Garden City Park Water
District in 1970. He became a head
pump operator and was responsible
for the supervision, operation and
maintenance of Garden City's nitrate
removal plant, the only such facility
in the United States. In 1978, he was
promoted to assistant superintendent
where he had a host of responsibilities.
After three years, Mr. Krumholz
accepted the position he currently
holds. As Superintendent of the
Bethpage Water District, he has
complete responsibility for the operation,
maintenance and administration
of the district.
Since joining the LIWC in 1976,
Mr. Krumholz has been very active
on the public relations committee, the
health and welfare committee, the
water supply coordinating committee,
the arrangements committee and, one
of his favorites, the golf committee.
"It is a special honor to accept the
Water Supplier of the Month Award,"
said Mr. Krumholz. "My work in the
water industry and my involvement
with the water conference has been*
a gratifying experience."
