Bethpage Mourns The Loss of
Edward R. Harris
Bethpage bows Ihelr head in sorrow
at the loss of a very special man.
Edward R. Harris who passed away
on April 23, 1991. Harris had a 36
year history with the Bethpage Fire
Department and was an Honorary
Deputy Chief as well as l^resident ol
the BFD Benevolent Association, and
its current trustee. He was also voted
Fireman of the Year in both 1977 and
1988.
On Friday, April 26, the Bethpage
Fire Department paid a final tribute
to a man who truly gave unselfishly
to his community. A "Viking Funeral"
as it is called began with a solemn
and impressive convoy of fire apara-tus,
which drove to St. James Church
in Seaford for a Memorial Service.
1 can personally tell you that a dry
eye could not be found, nor could a
more deserving and touching tribute
be paid to such a special man. He is
survived and mourned by his wile
Kathryn: two children. Richard and
F.dward; five grandchildren and the
entire community of Bethpage.
Our heartfelt sympathy to ihc
Harris family in their time of sorrow.
