VOL 24 NO. 12 Celebrating Our 24th Year February 22-28, 1991 Celehrating Our 24th Year 25 CENTS
Nearly 300 flag waving, yellow ribboned participants braved the snowy cold day to participate in a Rally of Support of our troops in Saudi
Arabia which was sponsored by the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce on February 18 (Turn to page 8 for more).
A blanket of snow filled the Bethpage
sky, but the cold and wet weather
didn't dampen the spirits of hundreds
of residents who took to the streets
on February 18 to be a part of a
support rally for our soldiers in the
Middle East.
The parade and rally which was
sponsored by the Bethpage Chamber
of Commerce united young and old
in an overwhelming and impressive
show of support and love. Almost
every organization in Bethpage par-tic
Dated in this venture which certainly
attributed to its success. Fire
trucks proudly driven by our Fire
Dcpartr^ent, along with vintage
military-ehicles led the parade which
began on Broadway and circled to the
American Legion Hall where the
T.O.B. Show Mobile housed local
officials and clergy who participated
in the rally. Representatives from the
Republican Club, Women's Club,
Civic Association, Historical Society,
Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce,
Community Council American
Legion, VFW Butehorn Bros Post
4987, American Legion Chapter 82
Auxiliary, Unit 86 Bethpage, P.A.L.
Rotary Club, Vietnam Veterans, and
hundreds of residents joined forces to
make this President's Day so much
more special than ever before.
It was so very touching to see wives
and mothers clutching pictures of their
loved ones who have been called to
duty in Saudi Arabia as Arthur
Bretton proudly and superbly sang the
National Anthem. Banners, Pins and
American Flags added patriotic color
to the snow filled skies as FOB
Supervisor Angelo Delligatti fSmd
Assemblyman Phil Healy addressed
the crowd with words of cor'*'ort,
encouragement and support fo he
true 'American Heroes' in the ? uddle
East. Words of prayer were offered
by Rabbi Bruce Ginsberg of Bethpage
Jewish Center as well as Father
Keavney of St. Martin of Tours. Paul
Masi a Vietnam Veteran and a
member of the Vietnam Vets Chapter
82 as well as Chaplain Pomerance
added words of support and taith.
Gary Bretton, Chamber of Commerce
V.P. who chaired this event
spoke with News 12 reporters yesterday
praising both our soldiers and our
town "This may not be the biggest
town... but it's the best. Our men and
women in the Middle East deserve our
support and love..They are truly
America's finest." Special thanks to
Michael Giardina and Bill Bach who
helped to organize the parade order.
I he Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
extends their sincere appreciation
to all those who participated in
this rally. Hopefully our love, thanks
and admiration can be felt halfway
around the world. God bless them all.
