Bethpage hit with 2-4 inches of snow in March stornn
Pictured above is Bethpage's own version of "Frosty" who was loosing weight
rather rapidly as Bethpage thawed out from a snow storm which hit the
area on Monday night, March 5,1990.
Oh, the weather outside was
certainly frightful, although
some found it quite delightful,
as Bethpage was hit with a March
snowstorm on Monday night. After
basking ourselves in the unusual 60
degree temperatures that January and
February dealt us, this, out of the blue,
winter storm took most of us by
surprise.
The accumulations in Nassau
ranged from 2 to 4 inches while our
eastern neighbors in Suffolk County
received as much as 10 inches.
Although this week got off to a very
cold start the weather forecast for the
next few days has predicted a warming
trend with temperatures in the 50's.
We will however be in for a little more
precipitation in the next week,
although weather forecasters have
promised that it will be in the form
of rain...bet we've all heard that
promise before. Take it from me...I
wouldn't be putting those shovels
away just yet!
Bethpage Community Council
Reorganizes
The Bethpage Community Council,
which had been operating as a committee
of the Central Civic Association
of Bethpage, met on February
I9th to reorganize as an independent
organization. Michael Sleiniger, who
initiated the drive for a community
council, stepped down as Co-
Chairman, since he is currently the
president of the Central Civic Association.
Mr. Steiniger felt that his dual
role might constitute a conflict of
interest.
A by-laws committee was established,
and as soon as the by-laws are
presented to the council for approval,
incorporation procedures will
commence.
Concern was expressed about
methods for effectively reaching a
greater number of Bethpage residents
witji information about the topics
discussed at the BCC meetings. A
committee, headed by Meryl Rew-kowski,
Linda Antonelli and Joan
Poppe, was appointed to research this
topic. Michael Steiniger announced
that information would be available
at the reference desk of the Bethpage
Library.
Before adjourning, the council
expressed its gratitude to Michael
Steiniger, who perceived the need tor,
and achieved the goal ol bringing
representatives from the various
organizations in the community
together for the welfare of Bethpage.
This reorganization indicated the
need for a new set of officers, who
were nominated and elected as
follows: PRESIDENT
Dennis Murphy
FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT
Richard Festante
SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT
John Pappas
RECORDING SECRETARY
Margaret Carvo
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY
