Benefit Bowl Raises
Over *21,000 For Needy
Mother Nature certainly put a good
word or two in for Bethpage's weather
on Sunday December 9 as Bethpage
hosted the third Annual Bretton's
Benefit Football Game at the Bethpage
High School. This game which
was started by Gary Bretton has been
responsible for raising over $15,000 in
the last two years and this year
astounded everyone as the game raised
over $21,000 to benefit the needy
families in the Bethpage area. Raffles
v/ere sold, cheerleaders cheered, roses
were sold and door prizes were given
out by the hundreds as the Bretton's
Deli Team competed against the
famous Bethpage Golden Eagles
Varsity Football Team. And believe
it or not the oV guys won...by a
whopping 32-13.
The important thing about this
benefit game is that everyone wins!
We as a community should look upon
this game with pride in knowing that
this holiday season we were responsible
for helping to brighten the lives
of those less fortunate. Gary Bretton
and his entire family should be
commended on their tireless efforts
and overwhelming dedication to this
game and the people of Bethpage. It
is individuals such as Gary that make
a difference in the lives of so
many...and the gift that he has given
this community is the best holiday gift
of all. This game is so much more than
field goals and touchdowns. It's about
individuals all coming together for the
common cause of good will, it's about
caring for those who are in need...it's
about love.
Gary Bretton prepares all year for
this event. He hounds people day after
day for contributions and he spends
night after night organizing and
preparing for the big game. He held
Pancake Breakfasts and raffles and
believe me not a day has gone by in
the last 3 months that this man hasn't
worried about the game or how many
people he would be able to help this
year. At a time when most people are
totally overwhelmed with their holiday
gift list this man takes on an
lenormous project that he truly

Bowl raised over $21,000 for the needy of Bethpage. Now, that's something to cheer
believes in and loves. Perhaps it is
belief and loyalty to this benefit game
that makes it such a success year after
year. Gary you truly are a hero to this
entire community, and 1 congratulate
all those individuals who played those
four quarters, sold raffles, counted
money, cheered the teams on or just
stopped by to watch the event. Each
and every person took part in a
remarkable accomplishment and an
event of love.
