Old Bethpage Singers Visit our Capitol
THE OLD BETHPAGE SINGERS stopped for a portrait in front of the Capitol on a recent visit to Washington
D.C. The unique 12>nieniber choral group was selected by the National Park Service to provide the music in Washington
at a Grand Review Parade commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War. The Grand Review
was a re-enactment of the actual parade that took place in Washington in May, 1865 with thousands of Uni«n
Army soldiers. The Singers have provided choral music for Old Bethpage Village Restoration since 1974.
The director is Sandy Valerio of East Northport (front, center.)
Last week the Tribune told you a
story of a truly remarkable Bethpage
couple who's love and courage are
helping them to overcome a tremendous
hurdle...the Wilkeyson's. As
reported last week Jim Wilkeyson was
diagnosed with leukemia shortly after
his engagement to Gerry (formerly
Duffy). The courageous couple married
and honeymooned in Seattle
Washington where Jim underwent an
extremely expensive and intensive
bone marrow transplant. The Bethpage
Rotary Club and the Bethpage
Tribune have joined forces in sponsoring
a Bowiathon where we will
"Wipe Out the Pins for the Wilkey-sons."
The Bowiathon will take place
on December I, at 7:30 pm at Woodbury
Lanes in Hicksviile. Raffle
tickets will also be sold with the grand
prize being a 20" cable ready color
TV. To obtain more information
about the event or to receive a sponsor
sheet call Linda Antonelli at 6H1-0440.
American Legion Auxiliary Veteran's Day Ser¥ices
fake a look up when you drive
or stroll through Bethpage
these days and you will be
pleasantly surprised at the
beautiful holiday decorations which
were put up last week as part of the
Bethpage Chamber of Commerce's
"Light Up Bethpage" program. The
festive bells and garland along with
holiday characters are sure to instill
the ol' holiday spirit in this town and
are scheduled to be lit within the next
two weeks!!
Ihe Chamber of Commerce will be
holding a Holiday Lighting Ceremony
on Broadway in Bethpage as soon as
they receive notification from the
Long Island Lighting Company and
are planning to even have a choir on
hand to add to the festive celebration.
This year we are truly ringing in the
holidays in style. So far, the
Chamber's Lighting Fund is progressing
at a remarkable rate but they still
are a little short of their goal and ask
for your continued support. They also
invite all Bethpage residents to take
to the sidewalks when the official
lighting ceremony is held in order to
be a part of the spirit that makes
Bethpage such a great place to live
and work. Special thanks to all those
Tribune readers, Bethpage residents
and organizations who generously
donated to the holiday lighting fund.
A complete list of all donators and
full lighting ceremony details will be
published in next weeks Thanksgiving
issue of the Tribune. So keep reading
and be a part of the "Night Bethpage
Shines!"
