Series of Robberies Hits Bethpage
Det. Kevin McVey of the Eighth
Squad reports the details of a series
of robberies that occurred in Bethpage
on October 15.
In the first incident, a male white,
35 yrs, 5'8", 175 lbs. wearing a grey
sweatshirt and blue jeans, entered the
'Lemon Tree Haircutters' located at
355 Broadway at about 8:15PM.
There he approached the owner and
demanded money. The owner and the
suspect wrestled for a short time
before the suspect fled the store on
foot and went westbound in a 1976-
78 Cadillac. There was no loss in the
attempted robbery.
In the second incident, the same
suspect entered 'John's South Bay
Mobil Service Station located at 755
How many times have you driven
through Farmingdale during the
holiday season and wished that the
town of Bethpage could be decorated
as festively? Holiday decorations seem
to add so much to the season as well
as to the appearance and spirit of any
town. Well this year, it is Bethpage's
turn to shine. The Bethpage Chamber
of Commerce seeks your help to
'*Light Up Bethpage" this holiday
season.
When the Chamber began to
inquire about lights and holiday
decorations they were shocked to find
out how very expensive they were. In
fact through their research they found
out that many towns spend over
$12,000 each year to decorate their
streets. The Chamber requested price
information and selections from 3
major decoration companies only to
find that one was more expensive than
the other. They finally selected a
company who decorates Wantagh,
Patchogue and even Mankattan. It
seemed to the Chamber that if this

in a third incident reported by Det.

the same suspect also robbed the
'Dairy Barn' on Old County Rd. in
Westbury at about 10:15PM in which
$150 US Currency was taken.
There were no reported injuries in
any of the robberies. The Eighth and
Third Squads are continuing the
investigations.

The war with drug abuse is on and
has been for quite some time ... A war
which in many people's minds we tre
losing. So many young children and
adults are using and abusing drugs and
alcohol and the use of these substances
is increasing at an alarming rate. More
and more children are being born
addicted to cocaine and crack and
more and more drug and alcohol
related deaths are reported each and
every year.
Bethpage Schools have again
decided io show their commitment to
the fight again.st drugs by sponsoring
Red Ribbon Week, October 21
through October 28, During this week
we ask that you wear a red ribbon
or display a red ribbon to show your
commitment toward making Bethpage
a drug and alcohol free community.
We all want our youth to say NO,
and to grow up healthy in an environment
free from the evils of substance
abuse. It certainly isn't as easy
as just pinning a red ribbon to your
blouse, or tying a ribbon to your car
antenna. The fight against drugs is
probably one of the most difficult
battles to win. But by displaying your
red ribbons you are telling the youths
of our community that you care, that
you are behind them one hundred
percent and that you are fighting right
along side them in stamping out drug
abuse in our community.,
1 urge all Bethpage residents and
merchants to participate in this special
anti-drug week. Display your red
ribbons ... dislpay your concern for
the youth in our community and
display your commitment and dedication
to winning a war which we have
just begun to fight.
