Charles Mitchell

Have you ever met a person who
made you smile by just entering a
room, a gentle, caring person who
gave so much to so many? I have and
his name was Charlie Mitchell. Charlie
Mitchell was one of the most kind
and generous human beings I have
ever been privileged to meet. He was
a devoted father and husband. He was
an extraordinary Rotarian who exemplified
the words 'service above self,
but above all he was a caring, loving
man. Charlie Mitchell passed away
suddenly on August 29 at 63 years of
age. A day which is truly sad for the
town of Bethpage. A town in which
he lived, worked and devoted so much
time to. The loss of this truly special
man is immeasurable.
Charlie Mitchell was the owner of
J. V. Electric a family operated
business on Central Avenue for many
years. He was one of the driving forces
of the Bethpage Rotary Club and was
a member since 1970. Each year this
man would give up countless hours
collecting food for the hungry. He'd
ring bells for the Salvation Army and
donate so much time to help brighten
the holidays for those less fortunate.
He also was an avid golfer and was
a member of the Rotary's Terrible
Twelve,
The loyalty and love Charlie had
for his friends was inspirational. One
particular example comes to mind.
Charlie and Leo Schottland were
much more than fellow Rotarians;
they were good friends. When Mr.
Schottland became ill Charlie was so
very compassionate, so tirelessly loyal.
Each day he would visii him at home
and when Leo was well enougli, he'd
take him out lor a ride to brighten
his day. 1 can remember visiting Leo
and he once lokl mc he didn't kiiow
what he would do without Charlie,
Now ali I can do is ask the same
question. A world without Chiiiiiu
Mitcheil vsili be a lot sadder, but the
joy and conliibutions this rcniaikablc
man made vsill last a liletifnc. I'ach
person that knew </har!ic Mitchell
should consider iheitiseivo richer anti
so very, 'ciy lucky. Men stsch as
Chariie arc truly spemii and idiv.
U 1 had to describe Charlie Mitchcii
it would be so easy...Sa{iia. Chuilie
was a man with a heart ot gold. A
big, big hear! which svartncd ail those
people v^ho were blessed to know him
Chariie cared mure about hi^ lellovv
man than he did for himself and there
could never be another Charlie Mitchell,
for those shoes are far too big
to ever fill.
Chariie leaves behind his loving
