Happy Endings . . . something
everyone loves to read about and this
story is no exception. Our happy
ending begins with a 1976 graduate
of Bethpage High School, Cindy
Danna grew up happy and healthy in
Bethpage with her Mom and Dad.
sister Hlizabeth and brother Paul.
Much like so many teens she was
active in school and quite a good
student. Things, however began to
change (or Cindy, as her health began
to decline in her mid twenties when
contracting an infection in her kidneys
which caused them to function quite
poorly. She was rushed to a city
hospital where she needed to be
dialysiscd. In this process, however,
Cindy's lung was punctured and she
was truly in .serious condition. "Cindy
was in really bad shape at one point
we were afraid of losing her," said her
father Paul.
Cindy's determination and strength
allowed her to overcome her injuries
although the kidney infection she

The weather was sunny and warm
and there wasn't a drop of rain in sight
on Monday, May 28 as people took
to the sidewalks along Broadway and
Stewart Avenue for the Annual
Bethpage Memorial Day Parade. As
in years past congratulations should
be given to the entire Bethpage
Memorial Committee, who donate
their time and efforts in organizing the
parade and memorial service each and
every year. A task which is truly
difficult. Committee members
include Chairman and Grand Marshal
Charles Schwarz; Vice Chairman
and Parade Marshal, Vito DeFa-nis;>
S^retary Kay Mazzie; Treasurer
and Parade Coordinator, Joseph
Morreale; Parade Coordinators, Gordon
Rogers; William Forlgang;
Robert Imhoff; Commander Ernest
Warnken, American Legion Post 86;
President Dorothy Rabas. American
Legion Auxiliary Unit 86; Commander
Lindy Later/a, Butehorn
Bros. Veteran of Foreign Wars F^ost
4987; Ed Harris, Bethpage Fire
Department; President Ann Smith,
Bethpage Fire Department Auxiliary;
John Sommi, Superintendent of
School District 2! and Councilman
Douglas J. Hynes.
This years parade was certainly
impressive, as virtually every organization
in town participated in one way
or another. The Central Park Historical
Society, in my opinion, should |
receive first prize for their amazing i
replica ot the Old Powell Avenue]
School, complete with students and;
teacher Anne Merin. ! he Bethpage i
Fire Department paraded in excellent:
form as always along with the Nassau !
County Mounted Police t'nit who j
added so much to the parade. Ihe'
Archie McCord Post 86. American
Legion, the Legion Auxiliary along;
with the Butehorn Brothers Post 49H7 '
VFW and Knights of Columbus and ;
Columbiettes also paraded in full
glory to the beat of 5 school bands
all of which were excellent. Thomas {
Frost, director of the PAL had quite j
a large group of paraders as cheer- }
leaders, track, lacrosse, soccer and |
baseball players provided a rainbow |
of color while strutting down Stewart j
Avenue. T he Friendship Club.Golden j

fought left her in need of dialysis three
times a week. Dialysis as most of us |
are aware is an ordeal in itself and ;
Cindyadapted to it as best she could.
That is until the magical day of June
13. 1986 when Cindy received a kidney
transplant at Montefiore Hospital in
the Bronx. I he transplant surgery was |
a major operation but once again with j
Cindy's strength, determination and j
courage she came through the surgery j
with flying colors; and alter about 3
months recuperation time was back
on her feet better than ever and free
from dialysis.
Cindy attributes her lecovery to her
incredibly supportive family and oi
course her kning husband and high
school sweetheart, Robert Feldberg.
The couple were married in 1979 and
truly have been through alot together.
Ihe happiest moment ot all was the
birth of their son Robert Paul on
December 24, 1989.
