The community of Bethpage was
shocked when 3 Bethpage youths were
arraigned on a multi-count indictment,
on Friday, April 27, for the alleged
sexual assault of a 21 year old St.
John's University student on March
1 of this year.
The youths, all Bethpage High
School graduates and students of St.
John's are Andrew Draghi, 20;
Michael Calandrillo, 20 and Walter
Gabrinowit?, 21. All are said to.be
model students and superior athletes
coming from good unbringings and
blue collar families.
The alleged assault took place in
an off campus house in Queens which
was being rented by a number of St.
John's students, it is alleged ihat
Calandrillo offered the young woman
a ride home after a rifle club meeting,
of which the two were members.
Calandrillo was said to have made a
stop home to get money for gasoline.
The victim alleges that she waited in
the car for a few moments and was
asked to come inside. It was then that
she met Calandrillo's roommates
Draghi and Gabrinowitz. It was
reported that Calandrillo prepared a
beverage for her and insisted that she
drink it. It was then that the
woman reports that Calandrillo began
to massage her body and then forced
her to engage in oral sex. She then
alleges that she lost consciouness but
claims she remembers the 3 men who
were wearing masks, sexually abusing
her and orally sodomizing her.
The charges which were filed late
Friday afternoon in a Kew Gardens
Court, charges the students with
sodomy, sexual abuse, sexual misconduct
and unlawful imprisonment, of
which Calandrillo faces the most
charges with 28 counts. If convicted
each student could face mandatory
prison terms of 2 to 6 years, with a
maximum sentence of 8 to 25 years.
When the Tribune found out about
the shocking accusations we spoke
with Bethpage High School principal,
Dr. Antoinette Macl.eod who became
principal of the High School in the
middle of the year when the class of

Water Commissioner Gerard F. Donlon recently collected testing sample
at the Bethpage State Park. Photo by: Images by Rod.
New investigative research has
revealed that some older commercial
coffee urns may contain dangerous
levels of lead, warned Commissioner
Gerard Donlon ot the Bethpage Water
District.
These urns are most often used by
restaurants, caterers, institutions, and
food trucks. According to Commissioner
Donlon, fully one quarter of
the machines tested by H2M Labs ot
Melville exceeded the current HPA
standards.
In order to protect the health of
local residents the commissioners of
the Bethpage Water District have
already tested urns at the Bethpage
School District, Fire District, religious
institutions, and the Bethpage
State Park. Al! lest results met
drinking water standards. The commissioners
have offered free testing
services to any other not for profit
organization in Bethpage possessing
these older comtnercial coffee urns.
