ARMORED KNIGHTS WILL BATTLE ON FOOT during the Tenth
Annual Medieval Festival to take place at Sands Point Preserve on the weekends
of October 21, 22, 28 and 29, from 11 AM to 5 PM.

and fair maidens at the Tenth Annual
Medieval Festival at Sand Point
Preserve on the weekends of October
21, 22 and 28, 29 from HAM to 5
PM each day.

Gulotta said that authentically costumed
performers will re-create the
sights, sounds and excitement of a
14th Century tournament and fair.
The Great Lawn, flanked by the
English tudor stone mansion and the
Irish-style castle, is a perfect setting
for this annual event, noted Gulotta.
The day's events will open with a
procession by the Royal Court,
followed by continuous activities
throughout the day including: music
by madrigal singers; Irish folk music;
courtly and country dances; a magician,
juggler and stilt-walker; armored
knights battling on foot; and mounted
knights jousting. Children will especially
enjoy the puppet shows and
children's races. The day's events will
end with a storming of the castle to
resque the queen and a final Grand
Procession.
Colorful tents will house craftspeople
who demonstrate skills dating
back to Medieval times. This year's
crafts and skills will include weaving
and spinning, millinery and costumes,
arms and armor, blacksmithing, brass
rubbing scrimshaw, jewelry, floral
garlands, musical instruments, board
games and tarot cards.
Other attractions for visitors will
include the Multi-Media Art Forum
and Exhibit in Castlegould (open
October 19 to 29), and the Dino Den,
a participatory exhibit about dinosaurs
that will intrigue chidren as well
as adults. Tours of "Falaise" will be
suspended during the Medieval Festival
weekends.
Sands Point Preserve, a facility
operated by the Museum Division of
the Nassau County Department of
Recreation and Parks is located on
Middleneck Road, in Sands Point.
From the Long Island Expressway,
take exit 36, and travel north 6.5 miles
to the Preserve. Admission to the
Medieval Festivities is $3 for adults
and $1 for children ages 5 - 1 2 ; free
for those under 5. For further information,

Drug Related Stabbing
At Local Motor Lodge
A call early on the morning of
October 2 for an aided case at the
Hicksville Motor Lodge resulted in
the arrests of a 43 year old Bethpage
man and a 29 year old Levittown
woman for weapon and drug possession,
and the recovery of a loaded .357
magnum and five ounces of cocaine.
At approximately 3:45 AM, on
October 2, 1989, police officers from
the Second Precinct responded to a
call for a man stabbed at the Hicksville
Motor Lodge, Old Country
Road, Hicksville. In a first iloor room,
they found the victim, Richard Pic-cione,
28, of Levittown, suffering from
a stab wound to his stomach. Piccione
advised the officers that the man who
stabbed him was in a room down the
hall. When the officers were refused
entry to that room, they obtained a
key from the management, opened the
door, and observed a male and female
attempting to climb out the window.
The female was arrcslcd. and alter a
brief struggle, the male was placed in
custody.
Inside the motel room officers recovered
fi\e (Hinces DI cocaine, scales,
drug paraphernalia, and S3.670 in
cash. After obser\ing a loose ceiling
tile, oliicers found a loaded .357
Magnum hidden in the ceiling.
Arrested and charged with Criminal
Possession of a Weapon 3rd and
Criminal Possession of a Controlled
Substance Isl were Robert l*aul. 43.
of 89 Thomas Ave., Bethpage, and
Laurie Ekelman, 29, of 29 Chimney
Lane, Levittown. Paul is also charged
with Assault Isl and Resisting Arrest.
Both will be arraigned Tuesday morning
in First District Court,
Hempstead.
The stabbing victim wa.s taken to
Nassau County Medical Center in
East Meadow, where he is listed in

PEOPLE will be celebrating its recent
program expansion and facility
upgrading with an Open House. The
Board of Directors and the Staff invite
the community to attend an acquaint

PEOPLE is a community based nor
for profit agency which has serviced
Bethpage for 17 years. The program's
primary focus is on treatment and
education for alcohol and substance
abuse. It provides individual, family
and group counseling for adolescents.

Over the last year PEOPLE has
gone through many changes which
included a new Executive Director,
facility improvements and development
of new programs such as a
Parenting Group, a D.W.L Group, an
Employee Assistance Group and a
Womens' Support Group.
PEOPLE is fully staffed with
qualified licensed professionals and is
now ready to continue in its vital
service for the community of Bethpage
as well as other surrounding
communities.
