VOL. 22 NO. 41 August 24-30, 1989 20 CENTS
n August 28, 1989, the
[Bethpage Tribune, the
Town of Oyster Bay and the
Bethpage Rotary Club will honor an
individual who has contributed so
much to the town of Bethpage. He
is a poet, an author, a writer for.the
Bethpage Tribune, a Rotary member
and a very special and dear friend.
He is Mr. Leo Schottland.
We at the Bethpage Tribune
thought about what could be done to
pay tribute to a man, who for years,
has so unselfishly given of himself. We
wanted the tribute to represent Mr.
Schottland and truly capture the heart
and spirit of this very special man.
So, on Monday at 12:00 p.m. we are
dedicating a portion of the Bethpage-
Community Park to Mr. Schottland.
This segment of the park, which is
located between the ice skating rink
and the pool, will be known as Leo
Schottland Court.
We hope it will for years symbolize
the caring, giving and loving spirit of
Mr. Schottland and more importantly
hope that this will enable Leo to
realize how very special he is to the
people of Bethpage.
We invite all of our readers and
community organizations to participate
in this special ceremony, which
will take place at the Bethpage
Community Pool on Stewart Avenue
in Bethpage.
Seniors Rate Number One
At Restoration In September
Senior citizens get special treatment
during September at Old Bethpage
Village Restoration. From September
6 through September 29, on weekdays
only, senior citizen and handicapped
groups can tour the historical village
between key locations in the group's
own bus. A convenient tram will run
between key locatons to transport
visitors who do not arrive by bus.
County Executive Thomas S.
Gulotta said that September is an ideal
time for senior citizen and handicapped
groups to tour this mid-19th
Century farming village because the
summer crowds have gone and the
school groups have not yet scheduled
their trips. The Village will provide
tour guides for groups that want to
tour the village from the confort of
their own buses, noted Gulotta. Each
tour will conclude in the center of the
village where visitors may relax with
a light refreshment or take a short
walk through the nearby homes or
shops.
The Village's modern Reception
Center features an orientation film,
museum shop and cafeteria which add
to the pleasure of each visit.
Reservations are required for the
guided bus tour for senior citizen and
handicapped groups, and are available
on Tuesdays through Fridays only,
beginning September 6. The Village
will be closed on Tuesday, September
5 instead of its usual Monday closing.
For reservations, please call 420-5288.
