...and yes, The Bethpage Tribune.
On Monday, May 29, 1989 at 10:30 the streets of Bethpage were
Hned with spectators and smiling faces as they took part in the 1989
Memorial Day Parade. As in past years the parade included our Fire
Department, Archie McCord American Legion Post 86, Police
Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus,
Elementary and Secondary School Groups, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Senior Groups, Bethpage Historical Society and a new addition, our
very own Bethpage Tribune. I'm sure we are leaving out someone,
but none the less, to all those who participated and made the parade
a success, thank you. Your pride and patriotism were as bright as
the day itself.
If you want to monopolize, you can
do it with the roll of the dice.
That is the secret behind the new
& exciting Game of Bethpage. With
the flick of a wrist, you will be able
to buy as many local businesses as you
can afford. Thus, allowing you to
become the wealthy financier you
always dreamed of being at least on
paper.
In the true spirit of Monopoly, The
Game of Bethpage will be available
through the mail & through some local
stores. Local Businesses are in the
process of purchasing various squares
on the board with high hopes that
those who land on their squares will
also freq^uent their shops. Forty spaces
will be available on a first come basis.
The game is produced by Boy Seoul
Troop 604 of Bethpage in conjunction
with unique promotions of West
Orange, N.J., and will be used to raise
funds for the Boy Scout Troop. The
troop hopes to use these funds to
purchase new equipment & to defray
the cost of camping trips for the boys.
In order to have some idea of how
large the game's 1st printing should
be, the troop is taking orders for the
Game of Bethpage. The cost of the
game is $ 15.00 which is tax deductible.
And the 1st 300 persons who purchase
the game will have their names
imprinted as patrons on the face of
the game board.
Leni Plaster of unique Promotions
has been distributing the game
throughout N.Y. & N.J. for the last
five years and says it is very successful.
"It is much more fun to play a
personalized board game of your own
town. The advertisers love it because
of the one time fee for continual
advertising. The organization loves it
because its an ongoing fundraiser
without ongoing effort. And the
consumers love it because it's unique
-fun" explained Mrs. Plaster. She also
said that the amount the organization
makes will depend upon how many
games are sold and over what period
of time. The game can go into future
printing, but the minimum order on
a reprint will be 200 games.
In the past, the game has been sold
in Huntington, Sayville, Commack. &
Farmingdale.
To order your game, you may mail
your check for SI5.00 to Phil Lembo
at 20 East Court. Bethpage 11714 or
Gail Thomson at 10 Ceil Place.

Spring Cleanup Planned
In a display of civic pride, a wide
range of local organizations have
joined forces to prepare for the
"Spring Cleanup" that will be held in
the village's central business district
on June 3rd.
"The response from the various
groups has been truly impressive,"
said Mike Steiniger, president of the
Central Civic Association of Bethpage,
which has helped plan the event.
"We are making a valiant effort to
ensure that the residents of Bethpage
turn out in large numbers and help
clean up our community."
The drive will begin at 10 a.m. at
the Bethpage Library parking lot and
will cover and designated area in the
village, Steiniger said. Participants
who will receive "Beautify Bethpage"
visors, will remove litter and accumulated
trash using brooms, garbage
bags, rakes, shovels and receptacles
provided by the American Ref-Fuel
company, the event's sponsor. Coffee,
hot dogs and soda will also be supplied
by the firm, which was recently
awarded the contract to build a
resource recovery facility in Oyster
Bay Town.
"We are hopeful that the Spring
Cleanup becomes an annual event,"
Steiniger added. "It is an excellent way
to get the people of Bethpage involved
in solving our pollution and waste
disposal problems."
In addition to the civic association,
the Bethpage Republican Club.
Knights of Columbus, Rotary, Women's
Club, Historical Society, Police
Athletic League, Bethpage High
School Civics Club, several PTAs and
others helped organize the drive.
"American Ref-Fuel is pleased that
the people of Bethpage have indicated
such a laudable concern for their
environment," said Jim Clancy, project
development manager for the
Oyster Bay plant. "We are eager to
support their efforts."
