Does anyone know who these people are??? The photos were recently found in an attic
in an old house on Barbara Street in Bethpage by the new owners.
They could be portraits of the family that lived there long ago or photos of visiting
relatives. Any of our readers that have some idea as to their identity could really clear up a
mystery and at the same time, aquaint the new homeowner with the past history of her
''new" home. By the way, these photos are stamped on the back with the name: Fred 'K
Weber Studio, 463 Fulton Street, Jamaica, N.Y., which is no longer listed with the phone
company.
Please write to: OLD PHOTOS, c/o Bethpage Tribune, 329 Broadway, Bethpage, New

In his first official act of

North Hempstead
Supervisor John B, Kieman
as Board Majority Leader.
"1 would like to thank the

role in formulating policies
and programs which will
enhance the lives of our
residents.**
Supervisor Mondello
broke with tradition last
year by appointing Kiernan
Board Majority Leader.
Traditionally, the Vice
Chairman of the Board also
served as majority leader.
Upon reappointing Supervisor
Kiernan, Mondello
noted: "John Kiernan has
served with distinction as
Majority Leader. His under-stadning

through red tape have
enabled the Board to exercise
its responsibilities to the
fullest."
Under the direction of
Presiding Supervisor Mondello,
the Board held in-depth
hearings qQiicerning a
number of critical issues facing
Nassau County and its

S.T.O.P. Program Expanded
Expanding on the proven success of the Town's S.T.O.P.
(Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) program. Oyster Bay will
increase the number of collection days to eight.
In 1987 the Town sponsored program designed to remove
hazardous household chemicals from the waste stream held
six collection days. At the conclusion of the program 372
55-gallon drums of household chemicals has been collected
and 1250 gallons of waste oil had been recycled.
When the program was initiated in 1986 there were only
three scheduled dates.
With increased publicity through the lown's Newsletter,
press releases and with the assistance of local civic groups,
scouting organizations and environmenial clubs, residents
have been made aware that there is an environmentally safe
alternative method for disposal oi these products.
During 1988 the S.T.O.P. collection dates will be held
almost monthly from March thru November using both
Town and local fire department facilities. In the past two
years of the program local lire departments have worked in
cooperation with the Town to make this succcsslul.
In addition to waste oil collection during the S.T.O.P.
program the Town provides two locations which are open at
all times to receive used oil. One location is in Syosset at 100
Miller Place, on the northern Long Island Expressway service
road, west ot South Oyster Bay Road. The second site is
at Theodore Roosevelt Park Marina in Oyster Bay behind
the Administration-Building. The waste oil tank previously
located at the Carman Mill Highway Garage in Massapcqua
has been removed.
Residents may also bring waste oil to any gasoline service
station that does oil changes. Under New York State regulations
these stations arc required to accept up to 5 gallons ol
waste oil per individual, per visit.

TOB Increases Penalties
For Abandoned Cars
The Oyster Bay lown Board has approved amending the
Town's Codes of Ordinances setting fines lor those who
abandon vehicles in the Town, according to Town Councilman
John Venditto.
Venditto explained. "To try and deter the blight of abandoned
automobiles on our roads and the surrounding landscape,
the Town Board has set a minimum line of S250.00 and
a maximum of $1,000 for the last owner of any vehicle
abandoned in the Town of Oyster Bay."
The Councilman noted that a defense against the fine will
be if the last owner of an abandoned vehicle has filed a theft
