Assistance For Delinquent Taxpayers

Supervisor Joseph N.
Mondello and Supervisor
Joseph Colby of the Town
of Oyster Bay advise anyone
having difficulty paying
their County tax assessments
in a timely fashion to
apply to the Hardship
Review Board for a maximum
one year extension to
pay taxes.
"Recent incidents whereby
innocent elderly residents
have had their houses
sold out from under them
have clearly demonstrated
the need for action," stated
Presiding Supervisor Mondello,
who serves as Vice
Chairman of the Board of
Supervisors. "By allowing
an additional one year
period in which to pay taxes,
we hope to grant relief to
those County residents—
especially senior citizensr-who
are having difficulty
paying their real estate
taxes."
The Hardship Review
Board, which was established
by the Nassau County
Board of Supervisors to
assist homeowners who find
themselves unable to pay
their taxes, is authorized to
grant-a one year extension of
time beyond the 24 month
tax redemption period.
Owners or their representatives
may apply to the board
after the sales of the lax lien
on the parcel, and must notify
the tax lien purchaser by
certified registered mail at

providing a free two-hour music show at the
March of Dimes/ Pyramid Wheel America to Prevent
Birth Defects, sponsored by Citibank, on the
Long Beach Boardwalk at Lafayette Boulevard
on Sunday, May 17. The event begins at 9 a.m.

and non-disabled individuals who wish to

In determining the applicant's
qualifications for
hardship designation, the
Board will consider the ability
of the applicant to pay
real estate taxes and whether
an extension of time is warranted.
The Board is mandated
by statute to consider
all relevant factors, including
the age and financial circumstances,
as well as the
physical and mental conditions
of the owner of the
property.
A written decision will be
furnished to the applicant,
the County Treasurer, and
the Clerk of the Board of
Supervisors. Interest
charges on the unpaid tax
will accrue at the rate of 10%
per each six month period.

serves as Counsel to the
Board.

Men Of Valor
OYSTER BAY TOWN COUNCILMAN Thomas L. Clark presents a
Town Citation to John Fitzwilliam, 3rd Assistant Chief of the Bethpage
Fire Department, in recogniti43f4 of his receiving the Nassau County Fire
Commission's (N.C.F.C) Silver Medal of Valor for great personal risk in a
life saving attempt at a house fire on November 19, 1987. Three other
members of the department also received awards from the Commission as
well as Town citations for their actions at the same fire. They were (left to
right) Fireman Greg Patsos and Ex-Chief Francis Debobes, the N.C.F.C.
Fireman's Citation; and James Giovanniello, the N.C.F.C. Bronze Medal
of Valor for metitorious personal risk.

pollutants, according to
Oyster Bay Town Councilman
Thomas L. Clark.
"To assist residents in the
safe disposal of these products,"
Clark said, "the
Town of Oyster Bay, in
cooperation with the local
fire departments is sponsoring
six special S.T.O.P. program
days this year. The
second of six . scheduled
S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing
Out Pollutants) days, will
take place on Saturday,
May 16th, between the
hours of 9 AM and 4 PM at
the Massapequa Fire
Department, Hicksville
Road Firehouse, Hicksville
Road, north of the LIRR
trestle."
Residents are urged to
bring their toxic household
materials, excluded aerosol
containers, unlabeled chemicals
which cannot be cUissi-lied,
radioactive chemicals,
flammables, latex paint, Sil-vex
245T and explosives, to
the Massapequa l~iie
r ire ho use.
Special Hearings
The Nassau County Board of Supervisors will conduct a
series of special hearings to elicit testimony on a variety of
topics of concern to the residents of Nassau County.
All hearings will be conducted in the Board of Supervisors
Meeting Room, located on the fifth floor of the County
Executive Building, One West Street, Mineola, New York,
at 10:00 A.M. The topics and dates for each of the special
hearings are as follows:

Closing of Two Roads
To Through Traffie in Bethpage
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Angelo A. Delligatti
announced that the Town Board has set a May 19 hearing
date to consider the closing of two streets to through traffic
in Bethpage.
