Peter King Contributes To CoL North's Defense Fund:
C^lk On M LI. Residents To Join Him
Nassau County Comptroller Peter T. King stated today
that he has contributed $100 to Lt. Colonel Oliver North's
legal defense funs to demonstrate his support for "Colonel
North's surpassed courage and dedication to traditional
American values."
Noting that special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh is spending
millions of dollars to get something on Colonel North
and that powerful newspapers are editorializing against
North, King said that "the American people must make sure
that Colonel North has funds to defend himself. It would be
a national scandal arid outrage if Colonel North were to be
indicted and criminally prosecuted."
King is calling upon all Long Island residents to join with
him in contributing to Colonel North's defense fund.
'if the term 'hero' applies to anyone," King stated, "it
applies to Colonel North. In an age of plastic surgery when
so many politicians and government officials substitute public
opinion polls for principles, Oliver North is refreshmgly
unique. He has the guts to stand up for what he believes m
and he has the ability to achieve results."
"While there could certainly be reasonable dilferences
with certain actions of Colonel North," King added, "these

are differences of policy and should never be the basis of a
criminal prosecution."
"Colonel North's commitment to moral principles and
American values has struck a responsive chord among the
overwhelming majority of Americans. He has reawakened
our best instincts and he deserves our fullest help and support
in his hour of need," King concluded.
Contributions can be mailed to the Oliver North Legal
Defense Fund, P.O. Box 50096, Washington, D.C. 20004.
