Officials Selected
For NY State Games
A staff of officials with long-time experience in supervising
physically challenged athletes has been selected to handle
the New York State Games at Mitchel Park, Uniondale,
Long Island, May 29 through June 1.
Sonja Kuntzler, the Games Director, noted that all of the
officials had worked in either or both the 1985 New York
State Games or at the International Games at the same
venue in 1984.
"They bave the patience and dedication that makes them
mvaluable for this kind of activity," she said.
Additional officials may be named later but at this time
'these are the ones who will handle the major events: Al
Dawson, Westbury, field event coordinator; Joe Caruso;
Valiey Stream track coordinator; Joe Anne Castell, Mal-verne,
track coordinator; Steven Kuntzler, Valley Stream,
slalom coordinator; Anne Rockmore, Massapequa, swimming
coordinator; Eileen Turko, New Hyde Park, coordinator
for volunteers; Karen Schwartz, East Northport, coordinator
for volunteers; Dutch and Ginny Hess, Albertson,
coordinator with all officials; Jack and Carol Smith,
Syossct, awards coordinator.

Homeless On LL
Spring Weekends
Nassau County District
Attorney Denis Dillon will
host a Cablevision show on
the Homeless Problem on
Long Island. The half hour
program entitled, "The
People's Case" will be aired
at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday,
April 18th and Tuesday,
April 22nd on Cablevision,
Channel 24. Dillon's guests
are Assistant District Attorney
Burton Ryan of the Special
Investigations Bureau
and Beth Polner, an attorney
with Nassau-Suffolk
Law Services.
The DA's Office conducted
an investigation into
the placement of homeless
people in May of 1984 and
found that people were
being put into inadequate,
unsafe and illegal housing.
The details of this report will
be discussed on the Cablevision
show, as well as the current
homeless situation on
Long Island.
Beth Polner of Nassau-
Suffolk Law Services is
handling a lawsuit on behalf
of the homeless in Nassau
County. She'll discuss the
status of the lawsuit and
what she hopes to accomplish
through this action.
Old Bethpage Village
Restoration will be bustling
with springtime activities
during the coming weekends.
The farmers will begin
to plow and plant the fields,
and the traditional spring
cleaning will take place with
activities such as window
•washing and rug beating.
Everyone is invited to visit
the mid-l9th century village,
during the "Long Islanders
Ifs Been A Long, Long Time
at Work and Play" weekends,
April 26 & 27, May 3 &
4, and May 10& II.
Visitors may have the
opportunity ta try their
hands at plowing and planting
if schedules and weather
allow. Each day there will be
food preparation at the
Powell House, and visitors
may try churning butter.
The basket-maker, weaver
and broom-maker will demonstrate
their crafts.
Warm weather and longer
days also bring time for leisure
activities. Cards, dominoes
and marbles are
played, and visitors are welcome
to join in the hoop rolling
and croquet.
On Sunday, April 27, a
Civil War-era military drill
will be featured. On Saturday,
May 10, the Old Bethpage
Village dancers will
perform period dances, and
visitors will be welcome to
join in. Period music will be
played each day of the
"Work and Play Weekends".
Old Bethpage Village
Restoration, operated by
the Museum Division of the
Nassau County Department
of Recreation and Parks, is
located on Round Swamp
Rd., in Old Bethpage, just
one mile south of the Long
Island Expressway at Exit
48.
Secretaries Week
At a recem ceremony in rviincoiii, Nii!»!>au County employees were presented
with Long Term Service Pins by County Executive Francis T.
Purcell. Area residents Anthony Falco (25 years) of Bethpage, Ann Irvin
(20years) of Plainview, Jarnes Genoy (30 years), Robert Rasher (30 years),
and R.H. Vanwickler Jr. (30years) of Farmingdale and Arthur Randall (25
years) of Old Bethpage were among those honored.
