Registration is now being conducted for the
preliminaries of the 8th Annual Tobay Games.
Sponsored by the Town's Bicentennial Historical
Commission and the Department of Parks,
the events for this year's games include a relay
race, obstacle course, long jump, 50-yard dash
and Softball throw, with an egg walk in place of
the 50-yard dash for 5 and 6 ear olds. There will be
competitions iii each event for four age groups,
5-7, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12, with each participant
receiving a certificate of participation and a
Tobay Games Patch.
The Schedule for the Tobay Games preliminary
is as follows: Theodore Roosevelt Memorial
Park, Oyster Bay, Monday, July 15, 9:30 AM;
Syosset-Woodbury Gommunity Park, Tuesday,

Finals for the Tobay Games will be held at
Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, Oyster Bay,
on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 9:30 AM.
Medals will be awarded to first, second and third
place winners for each sport in each age group.
Registration forms are available at all Town
parks; at the Parks Department, 977 Hicksville
Road, Ma:ssapequa; and at the Bicentennial Historical
Conmiission Office, Oyster Bay Town
Hall East, Audrey Avenue. For further information,

There will be a special Tobay Games for disabled
children and young adults who are registered
in the Town's Group Activities Program
(GAP) for the handicapped Summer Day Camp.
The GAP events will be held at Syosset-
Woodbury Community Park on Wednesday,
July 24 (field events) and Thursday, July 25,
(water events) with a raindate of Friday, July 26
for both events. Hynes noted that the GAP Tobay
Games will begin at 11:15 AM with all particir
pants receiving a medal and a certificate of
participation. .

that glides smoothly around the serene waters of the Park's lake.
Hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., and Mondays from 1
to 7:30 P,M. Admission is 50 cents.
The jaunty, little stern-wheeler paddles along at 2 to 3 knots and holds up
was purchased for the Bicentennial celebration in 1976 from a Maryland boat
Disneyland with some of their riverboat replicas.

State minimum purchase
age for alcohol from 19 to 21
years of age Thursday, June
27, in Albany. The law,
effective December 1, 1985,
is a major part of a two year,
ongoing campaign to reduce
highway fatalities and alcohol
related accidents among
young people. At the bill
signing, attended by
members of the legislature
and representatives from the
Parents Teacher Association,
Automobile Glub of
New York State, the
Catholic Conference,
Mothers Against Drunk
Driving, and Remove Intoxicated
Drivers, Governor
Cuomo said, "Today we
reaffirm our commitment to
safety, our concern for our
children, our determination
to stop the slaughter on our
highways that has stolen so
many young lives."
