Tower Ladder For Bethpage
The Board of Fire Comrnissioners of the Bethpage Fire District
recently purchased a 1983 Mack Aerialscope, modern Tower Ladder
truck. This truck which is equipped with a platform, will greatly aid in
rescue and fire fighting operations in multiple story buildings such as
our schools, the Equitable building and three story Grumman
buildings.
The platform can be raised or lowered much like an elevator, and will
prove very useful in single story house fires, where the platform can be
positioned directly on theroof, making it a portable work station for
firemen. Hoses can be connected directly to a nozzle on the platform,
eliminating the need to run hoses only from street hydrants.
In the event of a multi-level building fire, as many as four people can
be evacuated at a time on the elevated platform. A much more secure
method than trying to bring panic stricken victims (especially children)
down a ladder.
As a result of this purchase the 1969 Maxim ladder truck that has
served the district so well for fifteen years is no longer deemed necessary
for fire department purposes. Therefore, the Commissioners are
requesting permission to se\\ this vehicle at the highest possible price.
Pursuant to Town Law, a Mandatory Referenda must be held in order
to sell this vehicle.
The Bethpage Fire District will hold this Referenda on May 1, 1984,
at the main firehouse located at 225 Broadway, Bethpage, between the
hours of 7 PM and 10 PM. A negative vote will place an undue burden
on the district to maintain and store this vehicle.
New Mack Aerialscope modern Tower Ladder purchased by the Bethpage
Fire District.
