It may seem just too easy a solution for escape
from the pressures of today's world, but many
homeowners are happily discovering the calming
rewards of a quiet, private garden. Several of
these relaxing garden designs are being exhibit-

ed at the Long Island Flower Show, March 6-14,
at the State University of New York campus at
Farmingdale, N.Y.
An estimated 50,000 people are expected to
attend the show this week, and at the same time,
the 1982 Open House at Farmingdale State
University.
Leading Long Island landscape contractors,
designers and nurseries have turned 40,000
square feet of the gymnasium into 23 spectacular
gardens. Twenty additional gardens have been
designed by local chapters of national garden
societies and garden clubs. The award-winning
capabilities of the college's horticulture students
are also high-lighted.
The alumni association and the NC Cooperative
Extension Association again co-sponsor the
•-lecture demonstrations in Nold Hall, Room
114. This year, approximately 50 presentations
are scheduled for the nine-day show. Experts in
the field of horticulture will provide information
about lawn care, indoor and outdoor gardening,

place to relax.

Take a trip over to Farmingdale in the next
few days to view the beautiful displays. It is a
welcome respite from the winter doldrums.
Bethpager At Carnegie Hall

Soprano Ellen Lang, of Central Blvd., Bethpage, Winner of the 1981
Concert Artists Guild Award, will perform at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday,
March 23. She is the daughter of Woodrow and Judy Lang.
Miss Lang has performed extensively in opera, as a soloist, and in
recital both in Europe and throughout the United States. This past year,
she received critical acclaim in a staged production of excerpts from
Victor Herbert operettas at the Smithsonian Institution. In 1980, Ms. Lang
performed a leading role in a production of Falstaff directed by Sarah
Caldwell at the Wolf Trap Farm Park. She was also selected to participate
in Master Classes with Beverly Sills which were broadcast over
public television.
Ellen Lang received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from SUNY-Bufialo
and continued her studies in Rome and Vienna. She was the
recipient of a Martha Baird Rockefeller study grant and has won
numerous vocal awards including the National Association of Teachers of
Singing Contest, the National Society of Arts and Letters Competition,
and the Baltimore Opera Contest.
Ellen Lang now lives in Washington, D.C. where she has been a
featured soloist with the National Symphony. In addition, she will be performing
a solo recital at the National Gallery early in 1982.
This recital marks Ellen Lang's New York debut.
