Sixty Years of Serving Bethpage
On Sunday afternoon, October 10, the priests
and parishioners of St. Martin of Tours gathered
together for a Liturgy celebrating the beginning
of the Parish's 60th year. This Mass of
rededication and renewed committment was
concelebrated by the Reverend John E. Murray,
Pastor, and the Reverends Eugene McManus,
Harold Heindel, Richard Bauhoff and Paul
Rashah, S.J., visiting from Ceylon. The concele-brants
and the congregation joined both the
Ptach Choir and the Folk Group in singing the
Pjtc selected for this occasion.
the Homily was given by Fr. McManus, and in
his summary of the history of the Parish he
pointed out the many ways in which the clergy
and the people of St. Martin's had lived the
principle "Serving Many Together", which is the
viable goal of our Community of Faith. After the
Mass, the celebration carried over to the school
cafeteria, where refreshments were served and
memories compared.
Sixty years of serving the Lord! <
Sixty years of serving our brother!
Sixty years of praising the Lord!
Sixty years of loving each other!
Many activities are planned for this 60th year
of our being. A series of articles on the history of
St. Martin's Parish has already begun in the
MARTINEWS, the monthly publication of the
Parish, and will continue through the year.
The Adult Education Committee of the Parish
Council is offering a number of programs in
conjunction with our Anniversary Year, not the
least of which is the "What Have They Done To
My Mass?" series already in progress.
On November 11th, the Feast of St. Martin of
Tours, a special Liturgy will be celebrated in
honor of our Patron Saint, and our Thanksgiving
Day Mass this year will have added meaning.
The culmination of our year will be another
Liturgy of Celebration next October. At that time
we hope that many of our former assistant
pastors, Nuns, parishioners, teachers, indeed
anyone ever involved with St. Martin's will be
present to help us commemorate this joyous
occasion.
