Students Visit West Germany
For the first three weeks of July seven studens from Long Island who
are studying German were the guests of German host families in the town
of Kreuzau, West Germany. The trip was made possible under the
Fulbright-Hayes exchange program which promotes human
understanding among teenagers. During their visit the seven students
went to school with their host students, were greeted by the Mayor at a
reception at the town hall and visited the Amerika Haus. Trips were
taken to the cities of Cologne (known for the product of the same name),
Aachen (where Charlmagne was crowned Emperor of the Holy Roman
Empire) and Bonn, the capital of West Germany. A ride down the Rhine
mfs capped by a visit to a castle and a ride on a trolley. Students also took
Pp$ in a school trip to Holland and everyone enjoyed the great German
hospitality.
17 students from Kreuzau High School have expressed the desire to
come to America to live with Long Island host families during the Easter
vacation. This trip was so enjoyable and successful that a return trip to
West Germany is being planned for next summer.
