Bethpagers Visit The Pope

A few Bethpage residents had the rare
privilege of a papal audience while on a pilgrimage
to Rome, Lourdes and Ireland.
Fr. Anthony Trapani assisted a very happy
Christine White, from Queens, as she received a
greeting and a blessing from Pope John Paul II.
Fr. Trapani was born here in Bethpage and attended
Bethpage High School. His parents are
Pete and Tessi Trapani, both of whom worked at
.St. Martin's as cook and maintenance man.
Mrs. Phyllis Bencivenga of Bethpage was also
on the trip and stands by while Richard Zysk is
blessed by the pope. Richard is a former Beth-pager
who now lives in East Islip.
In all, 28 Long Islanders enjoyed this European
holiday from August 1 to the 15. All home now
with fond memories of a beautiful summer vacation,
highlighted by their visit with Pope John
Paul II.
