TOBAY Corrects Pool Leaks
Bethpage Community Park pool temperatures reached eighty degrees
this weekend (August 1,1982) after Parks Department personnel isolated
and repaired leaks in some piping which were causing the pool to loose
9,000 gallons of water a day.
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Salvatore R. Mosca said that "when the
18-year old pool was being prepared for opening, a major break occurred
in the main feeder line. Parks Department personnel drained some the
pool water in order to make the necessary repairs.
"When the pool was opened on June 19, personnel became aware that
water was still being lost and consequently, pool temperatures were
lowered because of the need to replenish the water supply each day. On
Monday evening, July 19," Mosca continued, "a drain valve, which was
thought to be completely closed, required an additional two rotations with
a special wrench to completely shut it off. Another leak was also
discovered in the piping near the kiddie pool which feeds two water
sprayers and this has now been completely shut off."
One week after the leaks had been located and repaired, pool
temperature readings are stable at 78-80 degrees and are expected to
remain in this range, depending on weather conditions for the remainder
of the swimming season.
