Bethpage Bike-A-Thon
5th Annual Bethpage Bike-A-Thon for cystic fibrosis, in
memory of Pamela Eppner, getting off to a good start.

The Annual Bethpage CF Bike-A-Thon in
memory of Pamela Eppner was held on Sunday,
May 16,1982 at the Kramer Lane School.
Pamela Schechter, a sixth grader at Mattlin
Middle School, was the Grand Prize winner of a
10 speed bicycle. Pamela rode 62 miles and
collected over $500 to benefit lung-damaged
children. Runner-up prizes were awarded to
Richard Neumann, Jennifer Monegan,
Wilhelmina Vollmerhausen, Otto Vollmer-hausen,
and Kristin Zambri.
The Queens County Savings Bank was most
generous by once again donating the Grand
Prize. Pamela is pictured receiving her bicycle
from Mrs. Catherine Brown, Bank Manager, as
Evelyn Eppner, Chapter Administrative
Assistant stands by.
The Nassau-Suffolk Chapter is extremely grateful
for all the contributions made by local
merchants and friends which made the day so
enjoyable for riders and workers.

Scholarships
Richard Veras of Bethpage was amongThe
sons and daughters of 13 New York City
cabdrivers who were awarded $37,000 in college
scholarships. The announcement was made at
the^nnual Taxicab Industry Health and Welfare
Fund Luncheon, held at the Grand Ballroom at
the Prince George Hotel. The Fund, which was
established in 1966 by the fleet organization, The
Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade (MTBOT) I
and The Taxi Drivers and Allied Workers Union, |
has awarded over $655,000 to high school seniors
and young drivers for the purpose of continuing
their 'promising' academic careers. Richard
plans to continue his education at Hofstra.
Mr. Jack V. Toal, chairman of the Fund, and
vice-president of the MTBOT, presented six
youngsters with $5,000 college scholarships,
seven high school seniors with $1,000 awards,
and gave 10 drivers an additional $500 each.
