Father Gene's Silver
Celebratio
Awards
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Salvatore R.
Mosca presents a citation to Fr. Eugene
McManus marking the occasion of the 25th
anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood,
McManus is assigned to St. Martin of Tours
Parish, Bethpage, where he is active in church
as well as community affairs. Following the
celebration of an anniversary mass, He was
honored at a parish open house.
Father Tom Honored
Father Thomas J. Hartman, director of radio
and television for Telicare, the diocesan TV center
will be the honoree at the IHB Services for the
Blind ' 'Sound- and Light Ball" set for July 15 at
IHB's Burrwood Residence for elderly blind and
deaf-blind perons in Cold Spring Harbor, Long
Island. Father Tom was formerly with St. James
Church in Seaford and was the Chaplain of the
Bethpage Fire Department.
The outstanding volunteers: Florence Pfeuffer, Sylvia
Spiegel, Fred Schiller, Diane Boro, and Mary Richmond.
Adult volunteers and teenage" "volunteens" having served
from 50 to 4,000 hours, were honored for service to the
community and to Mid-Island Hospital, Bethpage, at an
award ceremony Thursday, June 3, in the hospital meeting
room. .r
Certificates and pins were presented to the volunteers who
have given a great deal of their time and effort to the pa tients
at this hospital.
Whether to fill an actual physical need; to teach arts &
crafts or read to a long term patient whose days are endless,
or to simply smile and share a friendly word, these caring
volunteers could be depended on to do their best.
There are presently over seventy adult volunteers at the
hospital, and not all of them are 'retired with nothing else to
do.' Many are working people who choose to spend their
hours after work, or weekends, helping others.
And the many "volunteens" are to be commended, for they
are not "out there making problems." Instead they are "in
there," helping to solve what problems they can.
Outstanding Volunteens: Kathy Apelskog, Christine
Tringali, Sharon Plutchok, Patricia Doyle, Terri Truglio,
Annie Hofer and Jennifer Sicuro [not shown].

was begun two years
ago at historic Fort

"It takes but a few
seconds to recite those
31 words to the Pledge

"Let's join this
meaningful expression
of national unity on
