It Rained On Our Para
There are different ways of looking at
things, and-tbat includes viewing a rainy parade.
You can either gain a good vantage
point, as did Chris Cuciti, or...

The Annual Bethpage Memorial Day Parade and Service was,
unfortunately, rained on but fortunately, not rained out. Our community
was, again, able to honor it's veterans on this Memorial Day. The
American Legion Archie McCord Post No. 86 and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Butehorn Brothers Post 4987, proudly led the parade, followed by an
impressive contingent from the Bethpage Fire Department.
Despite the insistent rain, Stewart Avenue was lined on both sides with
people out to watch their friends and relatives parade by and to lend a
little moral support as they cheered the wet marchers, getting wet themselves
in the process.
Organizations participating were: Knights of Columbus, Columbiettes,
St. Martin's Senior Citizens, Bethpage Senior Citizens, Boy Scout Troup
604, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, St. Martin of Tours School, Bethpage
Midget FootPolice Boy's Club, Maureens School of Baton, Bethpage
Nursery School, BFD Cadets, and Auxiliaries from the American Legion,
V.F.W. and Fire Department.
The marching band music, keeping everyone in step was provided by
Bethpage Senior and Junior High School; Central Boulevard, Charles
Campagne and Kramer Lane Schools.
The parade ended at the Bethpage Community Park where an impressive
service was given by the veterans organizations and wreaths
were placed at the memorial stones in the park, the salute was fired by
the American Legion and VFW, and taps played by Al Nigro and Dan
Fishkind of the Bethpage High School Band. Joanne Mosca was the
vocalist of the day.

You can hide from the raindrops and peek
through a buttonhole.
Memorial wreaths were placed before a show of colors by various community organizations
at Bethpage Community Park, while the crowd stood at attention to pay their respects to our
remembered veterans. Photos by Rick Kopstein
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Salvatore R. Mosca shared in Memorial Day ceremonies in
Bethpage. He is joined by Charles Schwartz (right), Chairman of the Memorial Day Committee;
Phil Staudermann (left), Past Commander of the V.F.W.; Lillian Sullivan, President
of the American Legion Auxiliary; and Rabbi Bruce Ginsberg of the Bethpage Community
Jewish Center, who serves as Chaplain for the Bethpage Volunteer Fire Department.
