German American Cultural Exchange

me /
Petra Staus anMjhtike Lorch are exchange students from
Germany in the United States until April 24. They are staying
at the home of Alisa Rietschlin's family and will attend
Bethpage High School. They attend a high school located
near Cologne studying English for six years and French for
four years. Foreign language study is compulsory from the
5th grade on.
Petra and Ulrike are in the 9th and 10th grade respectively.
This is their first trip to the United States and seem to be
enjoying it immensely. By their standards, Bethpage is a
large school, but old. The student body is friendly and the
teachers less formal than in Germany. They like the sports
program here and believe that we are indeed fortunate to
have a swimming pool.
Pictured above (left to right) is R. Black, Ulrike Lorch,
Alisa Rietschlin and Petra Staus.
When asked what message they had to leave, they
responded enthusiastically that they "like Americans" and
find them "very warm-hearted and friendly."
