Eleanor Loeffler Retires
Served Town For Fourteen Years
RETIREMENT: Oyster Bay Town Councilman Douglas J. Hynes (right)
presents a certificate of merit to Eleanor Loeffler of Bethpage upon her
retirement from the Town. Mrs. Loeffler has served the Town for 14
years, most recently as a secretary in the Senior Citizen Services
Division of the Department of Community Services. On hand to offer his
best wishes was the new Commissioner of Community Services, Joseph
Rogoff, of Plainview.
Suzanne & Gregory Gordin
American Citizens
A PRESTIGIOUS WELCOMING COMMITTEE: Hempstead Presiding
Supervisor Thomas S. Gulotta (right) welcomes Suzanne and Gregory
Gerdin following their swearing in as American citizens last week. State
Supreme Court Justice James Niehoff of Baldwin (left) presided over
the swearing in, after which Presiding Supervisor Gulotta addressed the
new citizens. Suzanne and Gregory are living in Seaford. They were
among 9 new citizens sworn in during the Mineola ceremony.
National Engineers Week
The National Society of Professional Engineers, with a membership of
80,000 professional engineers from all disciplines of the profession, began
sponsoring National Engineers Week in February, 1951. The purpose of
the Week is to familiarize the public with the work of engineers and to
honor outstanding members of the profession. The week of George
Washington's birthday is traditionally observed as National Engineers
Week because our nation's first President was himself a land surveyor
Marilyn Carvino
Receives Merit Award
PLAINVIEW RESIDENT Marilyn Carvino, re-cipient
of the Phi theta Kappa Merit Award
from SUNY Farmingdale. The award, based on
academic and career achievement, is given to
one qualified applicant per semester. Each
award carries a $150 stipend.
Marilyn, a proposal manager at the Grumman
Aerospace Corporation, has a 4.0 average. She
has completed 51 of the 64 credits required for an
Associate in Science Degree in Business
Administration.

the educational background of a civil engineer in the 18th century.

Lady Bandit Nabbed
The gun-wielding lady bandit responsible for
three robberies in Bethpage and Plainview was
arrested on January 30th together with her
ac ~ /» t 5ng a month long spree that
netted w»v' i over $1,000.
Arrested by Detective Falk of the 8th squad in
Bethpage was Laurrine Mauro, 19 years of age,
of 16 Robinson Drive, Bethpage. Also arrested
war °*in Giordano, 23, of 25 Alpine Drive, Hicks-ville.
Botn women were charged with 3 counts of
robbery.
The two had robbed a Carvel store on January
20 ad552 Stewart Ave., Bethpage; Lidia Health
and Beauty Aids, 661 Old Country Road, Plain-view
on Jan. 22nd and the Erga Italian Bakery of
546 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage January 24th.
