Is Showing
At 1pm Saturday, November 14th the officials
gun rang out signaling the swimmers to start the
first event. Three and a half hours later the Beth-page
girls emerged with their fourth consecutive
Nassau County Title. The Golden Eagles placed
swimmers in the top three in every event to score
409 points followed by 2nd place Cold Spring Harbor
with 211 points and 3rd place Bellmore-Mer-rick
with 201 points.
This was Bethpage's smallest squad in the last
ten years but that never dampened their optimism
for a successful season. In fact it only encouraged
each girl to contribute a little bit more.
They may have had a little less quanity this year,
but they certainly demonstrated a lot of quality.
The Nassau County Coaches Association selection
for 1981 "All-County" & "All-Conference"
award recipients can attest to that fact.

Just one week later at the Nottingham pool in
Syracuse, the 400yd Freestyle relay comprised
of seniors Susan McDonnell, Beth Paola, Linda
Chambers, and junior Janine Dhersigny, set a
new Nassau County record of 3:49.13 to place 6th
in New York State. "It was a good feeling to
place 6th upstate" commented Linda. "We
showed them we could be competitive with the
best of them in the state."
During the past four years the Bethpage varsity
girls crossed county lines and defeated the
Rockland County Champs of Section 9, and the
Suffolk County Champs of Section 11. They have
also broken every school record including two
County records while capturing six consecutive
undefeated Conference Titles. Throughout these
