Bethpagers Help Others
Designed For
The Disabled
At Long Island's recent Handi-Capable Day
festivities, Bethpage resident Bertha- Stehle, a
New York Telephone Pioneer, shows Steve
Omans a handicap is no barrier when it comes to
playing baseball. The Pioneer-invented ball
emits a beeping sound which blind youngsters
follow when hitting a pitch. It's one of many
devices the Pioneers, consisting of employees
and retireees of New York Telephone, designed
for disabled athletes. The volunteer group, which
does extensive work with the handicapped, also
runs sensory baseball and bowling leagues for
disabled children on Long Island.
United Cerebral Palsy Auxiliary Workers
CP auxiliaries earn Double Gold Key Awards
for outstanding membership and fundraising
achievement from the Council of Cerebral Palsy
Auxiliaries. Among the recipients honored in a
ceremony at the CP Treatment and
Rehabilitation Center in Roosevelt shown in
photo at left are (top 1 to r) from Bethpage: Kay
Zahra, membership VP, Grace Pine, fundraising
VP, Lillian Antonucci, council membership VP
and Camille McNally, administrative VP; from
Plainedge: Ella Scotto-Lavino, membership VP;
(bottom 1 to r) Lois Bohm, council fundraising
VP, Claire Shaw, president, Evelyn Zainfeld,
president, Iris Alessi accepting for Herta Pytel,
fundraising VP and Helen Comforto,
membership.
The Bethpage Auxiliary of United Cerebral
Palsy held its Annual Fashion Show at Antuns on
October 21. The fundraiser proved to be a great
success thanks to the effortsof the hardworking
committee.

As a result of this event, the Bethpage Club
was able to add $1,700.00 to the United Cerebral
Palsy fund.
