Carnival - Auction Successful
On Saturday, September 26th, the Bethpage
High School Band held its first "carnival-auct-ion"
in the Bethpage High School parking lot.
The Band held the carnival in an effort to raise
money for their trip to Washington, D.C. next
year. When they will perform on the steps of the
capital building.
Various games were set up for people to play,
and there were hot dogs, doughnuts, coffee and
soda being sold also. Many items donated by
band members and other band supporters were
auctioned off by the one-and-only Mr. Leo
Schottland, who really made the auction a
success. Generous donations were made by
many of the Bethpage merchants.
Besides the auction, the highlight of the afternoon
was the debut of the Bethpage Polka-Dots,
a Polka Band organized by Al Nigro.
This is a satelite group of the Music Department
under the direction of Mr. Fred Cohen.
They have been playing together for about one
year, but this is the first time they have played
together publicly. The lively music moved some
people to dance around the parking lot and
others, less energetic, kept time by clapping
their hands. The Polka-Dots contributed to the
success of the carnival.
The Bethpage moms and dads for music
organization (the main organizers of the
carnival-auction) and all the band members
thank everyone who came on Saturday and hope
that they continue in their support of the
Bethpage High School Music Department.
Dawn Wojnarowski gets her face painted by Liz
Koenig, a member of the kick-line. This part of
the fund raising was a great success, judging by
the many "strange faces" that were seen.

The auctioneer of the day was Bethpage's own
Leo Schottland. He did a great job of "hawking
wares" and raised a good deal of revenue for the
band.
Nassau County Executive Francis T. Purcell,
right, and Suffolk County Executive Peter T. Co-halan
present co-signed proclamations to Sally
Slacke, who is coordinating Long Island Project
Pride Week for the Long Island Association. The
week, Oct. 18 to 25, will be launched with a bi-county
parade in Heckscher State Park on the
18th and continue with special events and programs.
It was the first time in history the county
executives ever co-signed each other's documents
in an effort to show solidarity of the Long
Island Region.
