INSIDE STORY: Oyster Bay Town Councilman Salvatore
R. Mosca gives the inside story of local government to
Kevin Laria, a student at Bethpage High School. Kevin
was among 11 students who participated in the annual
observance of Career Day and Youth in Law Day at
Oyster Bay Town Hall on Tuesday, May 11.
SALUTE TO LAW AND ORDER: Hempstead Town Councilman
Joseph Mondello [4th, left] is among the dignitaries
attending a Salute to Law and Order program and
parade sponsored by Island Trees Post # 1877, American
Legion. Joining Councilman Mondello are [L-R] Nassau
Police Deputy Chief Lawrence Thome, commanding
officer of District North; Deputy Inspector Henry Hack,
commanding officer of the eighth precinct; Parade Chairman
Fred Neist of Levittown; Assemblyman Fred Pa-rola;
Assemblyman Guy Maywea and the President of the
Levittown-Island Trees Veterans Council, Albert Sanders
of Levittown.
MAN OF DISTINCTION: Hempstead town Presiding
Supervisor Thomas S. Gulotta [2nd, left] and Town
Councilman Peter King [2nd, right] present a citation for
outstanding community service to Harold L. Crane of
Massapequa, past president of Division 7 of the Ancient
Order of Hibernians. Also attending the presentation
ceremony held during a Hibernian meeting at the
American Legion Hall in Wantagh are David Henshaw,
president of the Hibernians [left] and Mathew Coffey,
president of Division 7.
Bethpage Memorial Day
Observation
The final plans for the Memorial Day Parade and Service
were announced by the Memorial Day Committee.
The days observance begins with a non-sectarian service in
the Bethpage Methodist Church at 8 A.M. After the service
coffee will be served. At 9:45 A.M. the parade will form as
follows: the 1st Division at the Post Office, the 2nd Division at
the Firehouse and Divisions 3, 4, and 5 will form in the
Railroad parking field south of the Railroad. The parade will
proceed north on Broadway to Benkert St., west on Benkert
St. to Stewart Ave. and north on Stewart to The Bethpage
Community Park, where the Services will be held at 11 A.M.
The speakers at the Park will be the winners of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars "Voice of Democracy" essay
contest. They will be James Doerbecker of Kramer Lane
School, Ssan Connolly of Northedge School, Rosemarie
Falotico of St. Martin of Tours School, Gary Fink of
Campagne School and Barbara Toscano of John H. West
School. They will read their essays.
Committee Vice-Chairman, Everett Baldwin of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars wishes to stress the point, that, in
case of rain the parade will not take place but, the services
will be held in the Ice Rink at the Park, at 11 A.M. To spend
one hour of your time on Monday morning, honoring all our
War dead is little to ask for the privilege we enjoy due to their
great sacrifice. Please show your thanks by standing when
our flag passes by and join us in singing our National
Anthem.
The winners of the raffle, to defray the expenses of the day
are: 1st prize, of $50.00 was the Archie McCord Post
American Legion, 2nd prize of $25.00 was Ms. Jeanette
Hoeler and the 3rd prize of $10.00 was the Michael Hartigan
Council Knights of Columbus. The committee wishes to thank
all the people who bought tickets in our raffle run to defray
expenses.
Parade Formation
Memorial Day Invitation To Vietnam Veterans
An invitation to all Vietnam era veterans has been extended
by the Archie McCord Post #86, The American Legion, to
join with them this Memorial Day, to particiapte in the
parade and memorial services that will be held at the
Bethpage Community Park.
It is not necessary to be a member of the Post or any other
veteran's organization. Nor is it necessary to have a uniform
or veteran's cap. .'. •'.'.', ' , : .• . , ,
The Post is dedicating the parade to the Vietnam veterans
and they would like everyone to fly their flag in honor of them
and all the other veterans, both living and dead, who served
their country during time of war.
Those who wish to march in the parade may meet at the
Post home located in the LIRR parking lot of the Bethpage
station at, 9am Memorial Day. or, you can join the parade in
front of the Bethpage Post Office at 9:30am,
