February 25 deadline to vote in
the March 25 Presidential
primary elections, Board of
Elections Commissioners Isabel
R. Dodd and Stanley Harwood
have announced.
"Anyone who was not 18 at the
time of last November's election,
or did not then meet the 30-day
residency requirement, or was
not then a citizen, and who now

Plainview Meets On Feb. 20
The Greater Plainview
Community Association will host
an open community meeting on
Wednesday evening, February
20, 1980, at the Plainview - Old
Bethpage Public Library. The
meeting will start promptly at
8:30 PM.
GPCA has invited Ginny Klein,
the Executive Director of the new
Plainview - Old Bethpage youth
"outreach" program to meet the
community on the 20th. The new
program is designed to lend a
counseling hand to local
youngsters with drug/alcohol
abuse and related problems. It
will function under the leadership
of the Plainview - Old Bethpage
Youth Activities Council, with
funding from State and County
agencies. The activity and the
success of this program should be
the concern of every P.O.B.
resident, so please come down
and hear Ms. Klein explain her
specific plans for the coming
months.
Also on the Agenda will be a
review of the status of all zoning
matters - both old ones and some
brand new problems - affecting
the Plainview community. There
will be a discussion of the newly
revised "Pinball" ordinance
proposal that will be considered
by the Oyster Bay Town Board
next month.
Final determination of GPCA's
"Citizen of the Year" for 1980 will
also be made at the meeting, and
the local sewer construction
situation will be discussed.
The public is urged to attend
this most important meeting.
For more information about
GPCA and its many activities on
behalf of the Plainview community,
please call GPCA
President Carol Eisenstein at 822-
4686. Help us celebrate our 10th
Anniversary Year, by taking an
active role in the Plainview
community and its Community
Association.
18-Year-Olds
since last November may reregister
and transfer his party
enrollment by that deadline."
The Commissioners regretted
the increasing tendency of voters
to enroll as independents rather
than in one of the political parties.
"About one-fourth of new
registrants in the last few years
have partially disfranchised
themselves by not enrolling in a
party," they said, stressing that
no one can vote in a party's
primary contest except those who
are members of that party.
"Party enrollment is particularly
important this year,"
they added, "since primary
contests for U.S. Senate
nominations are expected in the
September 9 primary, in addition
to the forthcoming Presidential
primary."
Total voter registration in
Nassau is now the lowest it has
been in 17 years, and the Commissioners
urged all those whose
registration has lapsed for failure
to vote for two years, as well as
newly eligible young people, to
register "so they can meet their
responsibility as citizens to
participate in this Presidential
election year."
Mail registration forms are
available at post offices,
libraries, and village, town and
city halls, or will be mailed by the
Board in response to a telephone
call to 535-2411.
