FLASH: The Dynasty Continues
Bethpage Girl Swimmers captured the County Title for the third consecutive year. They
finished the season with a 9 and 0 record making them conference champs for the fifth
consecutive year.
They started the season off with the Relay Carnival, winning by 62 points. Every relay
that was entered placed in the top three, enabling every girl to come home with a trophy.
On Nov. 15,1980 the County Meet took place at Nassau Community College. Bethpage won
by 125 points. The results of the meet are:
200 Medley Relay: (third place) Beth Paola, Liz Louwers, Karin Ohsberg, Patty Bohman.
200 Freestyle: 1st place, Sue Mc Donnell, 8th place Clare Walsh, 9th Teresa Long 19th

200 Individual Medley: 2nd Linda Chambers, 5th Gloria Mooney, 11th Liz Louwers, 19th

On Nov. 18th, the girls swam in the state qualifying meet at Nassau Community College.

The girls worked hard all season trying to achieve personal goals and break the school
records. The records broken are:

The team is coached by Miss Cheryl Van Syckle. She has coached the team since 1972.
Miss Van Syckle has put a lot of time and effort into this team, andalotof dedication. If it
wasn't for her this team Might not be where it is today.
This year the team also nad a diving coach. Kevin Kops worked hard with the divers to
teach them new dives and to perfect the old ones. Our top diver Kathy Mooney made it to the
Many hours of, hard practices, a lot team spirit, determination, depth, and quality
swimmers all add up to a Number One Team.
The team lost 3 seniors last year but gained 3 new girls in their place, freshman Jessica
Rochon sophomore Paula LaSalla, and junior Colleen O'Connor. This year the team will be
