Building
Improvement Fund
The Archie McCord Post no. 86, The American Legion, has
created a Building Improvement Fund to make the necessary
improvements and renovations to its Post home at 10
Washington Street, Bethpage.
At the July 24th meeting, Commander John Gangemi
asked the membership to think about how the Post should
improve its building and how funds could be raised to make
these improvements. "I realize," said Commander
Gangemi, "that it is vacation time but I would like everyone
to think about this between now and the September Uth
meeting."
The fund was created last spring from the profits
generated by the Annual Spring Dance.
If you have a suggestion please send it to Commander
Gangemi c/o the Post or plan to attend the September 11th
meeting.
Local Woman
Hits Market
At 3:35 P.M. Monday August 19 a car driven by Ann
Schrader, 67 Evergreen Ave., Bethpage smashed into the
vacant supermarket (Bohack/Consumers) at Stewart Ave.,
150 feet south of Burkhardt Ave.
Ms. Schrader was attempting to park her car and hit the
accelerator instead of the brake. Eighth Precinct police answered
the call and Bethpage Rescue transported Ms.
Schrader to Mid Island Hospital for treatment of head
abrasions.

County Department of Recreation and Parks, representing
the co-sponsors of the annual invitational Surf Lifeguard
Tournament at Nassau Beach Park which was held August
Kith. Flanking him are members of the team which tallied
highest cumulative score in such events as the iron-man,
ocean rescue and relays involving swimming, rowing, and
sprinting. Surf lifeguarding, once associated only with rescue
efforts, is becoming popular as an exciting athletic
competition. Pictured above left to right: Front Row - Chris
