Merry Christmas!Light The Li
The family let Christmas go dark in 1972. Sal Fucci's
father had died, suddenly, two days before the holiday.
It was not a time to be festive.
Two years later, the Fucci family, Sal, Mary and
Laura, then seven years of age, left their Brooklyn
apartment for a home on North Road in Bethpage. It
was January 1975. Here and there a few homes still
displayed their Christmas lights and as Sal strolled the
area, trying to familiarize himself with his new
surroundings, an idea started to germinate within him.
By August, Sal had carefully diagrammed an outline
of his property, cheeked with electricians, had special
circuits made, explained his plan to Mary and visited
various flea markets and shops on a determined
buying spree.

On December 10, the Fuccis were ready, ready to
tijrow the switch. With a silent dedication to his father,
Sal turned on the lights.
The yard, the trees, the shrubs, the bushes all lit up.
The house, the entryway and the flagpole lit up. Santa
and his reindeer, Frosty, Rudolph, angels and choirboys
were seen stationed in the brightly lit yard on the
corner of North Road and FiddlerLane. Then the music
came on, tape recorded Christmas carols orchestrated
the scene. Fiddler Lane ana* North Road would never
be the same.
Four years later, Sal's display has grown
considerably. This year a large church has been added
to the scene. Surrounding homes have also added their
own Christmas scenes.
Driving through the area, you can't help but smile.
The neighborhood exudes such a joyous atmosphere
that the vibrations were felt as far as the North Pole. In
fact the TRIBUNE has learned that Santa officially
designated Sal Fucci as one of his special area helpers.
He even entrusted Sal with one of his special red suits,
saying "could you get this cleaned in Bethpage for me.
It seems only Bethpage Quality Cleaners can get out all
the soot."
When Sal went to pick up the suit, owner Frank
Trifoli said, "No charge for Santa."
The Fuccis may have outdone themselves this year.
Perhaps because son Stephen, sixteen months, Is at the
age where he can appreciate the magic of Christmas
time.
The display is lit every night and will continue until
January 10. The easiest way to get to North Court;
Fiddler Lane is located between Central Ave. and
Grumman Aerospace on Hicksville Road. Come off
Hicksville Road into Fiddler and just follow the lights.
You'll see the home almost immediately.
At press time we
received word that Jack
and Mildred Vogel have a
very nice Christmas
display on the corner of
Central Boulevard and
Rtmscho St. It was too late
for us to include them in
this issue but we will try to
get a photo in the snow. In
the meantime if you know
of any Christmas displays
that might deserve special
attention, why not drop us
a line at the TRIBUNE
office at 297 Broadway.
In our center spread this
week, are some nice
window displays. They'll
look even better in person.
If you hadn't planned on
shopping locally this week,
why not window-shop. See
the displays. You may find
a bargain behind those
windows. In fact we are
sure you will. The staff of
the TRIBUNE wishes you
a very Merry Christmas,
Have A
Joyous
Holiday
