Even Santa took time out from his workshop to enjoy some fun in the snow. Record snowfall left over 15 inches in Bethpage and the surrounding areas.
Although many of us have come to doubt weather predictions, we all must admit
that this time they were dead on. The Blizzard of 2009 pounded our area with over 15
inches of snow, frigid temperatures and some nasty wind. The storm, which started dur-ing
the afternoon of December 19, made for treacherous roadways and snow drifts that
seemed like mountains.
On Sunday we all woke up to the chore of digging out our sidewalks and driveways,
which seemed like an almost impossible task. This winter blast certainly insured that our
lawn3 will be white for some time, as temperatures will remain frigid for the next few
days. Weather forecasters are now predicting that we will in fact have a white Christmas
as another weather system is expected to come through our area on December 25. Will it
happen again??? Will the forecaster go two for two? Only time will tell. In the meantime,
be careful walking on the icy sidewalks and drive carefully because black ice has been
responsible for many accidents since Saturday's storm.
