New staff members of the Bethpage School District had the opportunity to
The Bethpage School District greeted new staff members with an ori-entation
day that included introductions, a District and community tour, and
informational sessions with building administrators. As in years past, the activi-ty
provided a friendly, inviting atmosphere that was the ideal opportunity for
new employees to establish the bonds that are characteristic within Bethpage.
Superintendent of Schools Mr. Terrence Clark, Assistant
Superintendent for Instruction & Technology Mr. John DeTommaso, and
Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Ms. Carolyn Lavelle welcomed
the new staff members during a breakfast held in the High School Cafeteria,
where they presented opening remarks and introduced other administrators in
attendance as well as Board of Education President Mr. Thomas Frost.
" This is a remarkable community and a great school district with phe-nomenal
results," stated Mr. Clark. " We are very proud of our teaching staff
and are pleased to welcome you - we believe teachers are the biggest compo-nents
of success." He went on to describe several District programs including
the Century Learning Initiative, high success rates demonstrated through
test results and graduation percentages, and other ways that Bethpage shines.
Mr. Clark also introduced Class of 2009 graduate T. J. Hynes, who eagerly dis-cussed
his many positive school experiences and memories.
Mr. Frost explained the Board of Education's outlook, stating, " We
believe in education, and we believe in you. You will have the support of the
stair and Board of Education."
Following the breakfast, the staff members set off on a bus tour that
identified each of the five school buildings. The tour also included special vis-its
to Cablevision and Northrop Grumman, two prominent companies within
the community that have been longstanding partners of the Bethpage School
Distncl that have provided instructional and intern opportunities for students.
New teachers walked through both facilities and met the leaders who caiTy out
chief operations for each company. Following this, they returned to the High
School, where they met with principals, directors, chairpersons, and coordina-tors.
It was a day filled with opportunities for new statY members to become
