Monica Manzi, Dr. Mary Hannon and Rowenta Costa
Dr. Mary C. Hannon
The Bethpage School District
welcomes Director of English/ Language
Arts Dr. Mary C. Hannon, who accepted
her title in July 2009.
Prior to joining Bethpage, Dr.
Hannon served as Principal of Plainedge
Middle School, where she oversaw all
operations in a building with 831 stu-dents
and approximately 90 staff mem-bers.
Dr. Hannon coordinated the build-ing
of the master schedule, implemented
district and school goals, collaborated
with and supervised teachers, and coor-dinated
multidisciplinary academic
teams. Additionally, Dr. Hannon made
informed decisions in relation to instruc-tion
based on testing data, coordinated
administrative and clerical responsibili-ties,
and evaluated professional staff
At Plainedge Middle School,
Dr. Hannon also coordinated the
ELA/ B a lanced Literacy department,
chaired the Middle Academic Leadership
Team ( MALT) and Building Emergency
Crisis Management Team, participated as
a member of the Plainedge
Administrative Team ( PAT) and served
as a PTA Administrative Delegate.
Before beginning her role in Plainedge,
Dr. Hannon worked at Elmont Memorial
High School for over 15 years, first as an
English teacher, then as English
Department Chairperson, and for 7 years,
as assistant principal. Dr. Hannon is
excited about her new position and looks
forward to " contributing positively to the
professional learning community at
liethpage." Dr. Hannon indicated that
" during my career, I have worked with
many wonderful teachers and administra-tors
who began their days as Golden
Eagles; I am delighted to become part of
the Bethpage community."
Dr. Hannon is a member of the
Association of Supervision and
Curriculum Development; National
Council of Teachers of English; National
Middle Schools Association; New York
Middle Schools Association; The Mary
Louis Academy Board of Trustees, and
the St. John's University chapter of Phi
Delta Kappa, an educational professional
organization.
Patricia Hantzidiamantis
Mrs. Patricia Hantzidiamantis
joins the Bethpage School District as
Executive Director of Pupil Personnel
Services and Special Education. Prior to
her appointment, she served as Assistant
Director of Special Education Services in
the Central Islip School District.
Mrs. Hantzidiamantis' previous
role entailed the evaluation and supervi-sion
of over 50 staff members and over-seeing
the daily operations of the
Elementary Special Education programs
in the district.
While can- ying out these
responsibilities as well as others, Mrs.
Hantzidiamantis also created, designed,
and implemented the new Life- Skills
Program at Central Islip's Preschool,
Elementai7, and Middle School levels.
Additionally, she served as CSE and 504
chairperson, Impartial Hearings supervi-sor,
and SEPTA liaison. Prior to her
administrative experience, Mrs.
Hantzidiamantis was a Special Education
teacher for 18 years in Hicksville High
Patricia Hantzidiamantis
School.
Mrs. Hantzidiamantis holds
New York State Certifications in
SDA/ SAS, Special Education PreK- 12,
and Elementary Education K- 6. Her pro-fessional
experience also includes a
number of presentations at national,
state, and local conferences. She is cur-rently
in the process of writing her dis-sertation
on Inclusion for her Doctoral
degree from Hofstra University.
" I am thrilled and honored to join the
Bethpage School District and work with
the staff and students in this communi-ty,"
Mrs. Hantzidiamantis stated. " I look
forward to starting the new school year
in September and ensuring that all stu-dents
with special needs receive the most
appropriate education and services. My
first and foremost responsibility as
Executive Director of PPS is to be a
strong and constant advocate for these
children."
Rowena Costa
The Bethpage School District is
pleased to introduce Ms. Rowena Costa
as Kramer Lane Principal. Ms. Costa's
appointment became effective in July,
following the retirement of former prin-cipal
Dr. Frank Cicione.
Ms. Costa simultaneously
served as assistant principal of two
buildings in the Plainview- Old Bethpage
Central School District; Old Bethpage
School and Parkway School. In this
capacity she was responsible for the
combined enrollment of about 750 stu-dents
as well as supervision and observa-tion
of staff; designing of schedules;
communicating with parents; monitoring
implementation of new programs and
supervising school procedures; confer-ring
with staff; coordinating, administer-ing,
and analyzing resuhs of assess-ments;
developing budgets, completing
data reports; and preparing orders,
among other duties.
During her time ac assistant
principal, Ms. Costa also served as the
504 Building Chairperson and Infinite
Campus Building Coach. Before her
employment in Plainview- Old Bethpage,
Ms. Costa worked in the Levittown, East
Meadow, and Elmont School Districts, as
well as at Molloy College.
Mrs. Costa is a member of the
Delta Kappa Gamma Society of women
educators, serving as Recording
Secretary for the Alpha Phi Chapter. She
holds New York State certifications as a
District Administrator; School
Administrator and Supervisor; Reading
Teacher K- 12; and Nursery,
Kindergarten, and Grades 1- 6 Teacher.
" It is an honor and privilege to
serve as. the new principal of Kramer
Lane School," Mrs. Costa expressed.
" Bethpage is a warm, caring community
comprised of wonderful students, dedi-cated
staff, supportive parents, and an
outstanding leadership team. 1 am
extremely fortunate to be a part of such a
dynamic, student- centered school dis-trict,
and I especially look forward to
meeting the Kramer Lane children and
their families."
Monica Manzi
The Bethpage School District
recently announced the appointment of
Ms. Monica Manzi as Director of
Special Education. Ms. Manzi comes to
Bethpage from the Roslyn School
District, where she served as a tenured
school psychologist. In addition to Ms.
Manzi's psychologist duties in Roslyn,
she contributed to various committees,
including Alternative Education School
Committee, District Mentoring Program,
Middle School Crisis Management
Committee, RISE Student Mentoring
Steering Committee, and the Shared
Decision- Making Committee.
Ms. Manzi began her profes-sional
career first as a Mental Health
Specialist and soon after as an AsiJ^ tant
Unit Chief at Riker's Island. Before she
began working in Roslyn, Ms. Manzi
was employed by the Glen Cove School
District, Young Adult Institute/ Life oiart
( YAl). and New York City Board of
Education. She holds a Masters degree in
