Freeport, June 10.—The Freeport Chamber of Commerce at their meet¬ ing Wedne.sday night In Engine 1 Fire House on Main street, took in several new members.
Next Wednesday evening the elec. tion of offlcers will take place. Meet¬ ings will be held monthly after thnt. An effort will be made to swell the membership ,'is much as po.ssible before next week. The li.st of charter mem¬ bers will close next week.
At Wedne.sdayls meeting the ques¬ tion of widening Main atreet was broughl up and will bo one of the prob¬ lems that the village will have to deal with. It was estimated that it would coat a million dollars to do it pixip- erly, but that it was a mo.st necessary step.
The merchants are not in favor of making Main street a one-way .street and believe the only solvitlon of \Jtie pre.seni problem is to doublo the width of the street. This would give ample room for trolleys, parked cars, and moving traffic and prevent congestion such as that which held up flre ap¬ paratus twice last month.
The Chamber pa.ssed a roaolution (o present to the Village Board a.sklng that the ordinance against parking cars on Main atreet for 15 minutes be modi¬ fied to read 45 minutea.
Repre.sen'tativi'is of the new organ¬ ization will attend the lioard meeting this evening to take up the matter of the parking ordinance with the ViUage Board.
