Saving to the Taxpayers
Mineola. L. I., Feb. 16—County Treasurer Daniel J. Hegeman, of Nas¬ sau, bas received an opinion from At- tornev General Carmody relative to tbe tax sale publication. Under tbe original form, the block, size of lot, years in arrears and name of owner had to be repealed each time. Tbe Attorney General contenda tbe block at the bead of tbe column is sufficient, and tbat where a map is on file cover¬ ing it the years of arrears need not be printed, and that theoiAner's name can be covered by stating "tbe following property is assessed to' (giving own¬ er's name).
The opinion will save tbe property owners of the county thousands of dol¬ lars. On one piece of property near Bellmore the entire value of ihe prop¬ erty is S700. Under the original form it would have cost $13,000 to adver- tiie. Tfae Treasurer will now proceed with tte printing of the tax list ii ac¬ cordance wltb tbe opinion.—Eagle.
