John J. Randall was awarded a ver¬ dict for $175 Tuesday afternoon by a jury of the Supreme Court against Judge Thonias.E. Murray of Manhat¬ tan. The Judge rented a furnished house of Mr. Randall, at Freeport, last summer, occupied with his family and left without settling with his landlord. The rent amounted to $200, but Judge Murray, in his defense to the action, set up a claim that the house and fur¬ nishings were not in the condition rep¬ resented, that he had to make some re¬ pairs while occupying it. The jury took $25 off the landlord's claim.

When the Sigmond Opera House was opened several months ago in Freeport, Sigmond placed Charles Werkheiser in charge as house manager. In connec¬ tion with this it is interesting to note that when he started in the duties of house manager were not very clear to Werkheiser, but by devoting himself to the business and making a study of the requirements of the job he has made a reputation that will stand him in good stead if he ever seeks a like position in a larger house, elsewhere. At present in addition to working in other departments of the theatre Werkheiser has in charge the most I difficult of all positions in a theatre to fill, that of stage manager, yet so '¦ well has he succeeded in pleasing all I he comes in contact with that hardly a {performance passes but he receives i praise from performers and others who ; be may be in contact with, for his : efficient work.
