Saturday night the Smithville South Hook and Ladder and Engine Co. had the greatest kind of a time, for it had a housewarming In it's new home on Newbridge Road and the way the crowd whooped things up for¬ the youngest flre company In the Town of Hempstead showe the mem¬ bers that they were with it from the start.
The evening's fun started at the Advance Hook Ladder and Engine fco's. house In Bellmore, where both companies assembled for the parade which consisted of the BeUmore Com¬ pany aoting as an escort to the Smith\ille South boys and their new chemical apparatus, v!«Iting flremen from neighboring villages, the chief, several ex-chlefs and others from the Freeport Department. Following the band the parade went ihrough Bell¬ more to Smithville South, up New¬ bridge Road to Anton Jung's house and counter-marched back 'to the home -company's house. Along the line of march many homes were dec¬ orated with Japanese lanterns and red fire was buri^ed to help out the enthusiasm. One thing was notice¬ able, however, that many folks along Newbridge Road had retired early leaving their homes In darkness, probably forgetting that in their vil¬ lage an event of the greatest Import¬ ance was taking place.
At the flre house the new com-' pany, pulling its engine, entered the building, while the guests of the evening lined up on either side of the run-way with hats off in salute to Foreman Frank L. Hack and his command. The supper tables were all ready and the crowd fell to to enjoy the good things provided by the ladles who had worked hard to prepare the various delicacies. These ladles too, came in for their share of appreciation for the tasteful decora¬ tions which they also were respons¬ ible for. Suppers were served by them for 179 persons and there were more on hand who preferred to stay in the engine room and admire the new machine, the workings of which were proudly explained by Assistant Foreman Albert Calcagnino.
After the spread was over the speeches followed. The toastmaster Introduced J. Huyler Ellison, ex-Pre- sldent of the Nassau County Volun¬ teer Association who was very much. to the point in his remarks and fln¬ ally wound up by presenting to Fore¬ man Frank L.
