The men were working on a scaffold¬ ing thirty feet above the ground, on Beards¬ ley was on the edge of the scaffold, when it began to sway. The other nine men were standing, and as tbey were directly under the rafters, each seized the nearest one and clung fast as the scaffolding dropped from under their feet.
Beardsley, who was unable to rise quickly enough to catch a rafter, was carried to the floor with the wreckage and rolled thence into an open space in the flooring, falling five feet further to the cellar bottom. He landed on a
